Gab: Silver Tongue Quest Overview

In this quest, you help Song Jiu settle a conflict with a rogue musician named He Wanchun. Instead of a traditional fight, you’ll be introduced to the Debating minigame, which functions like a card-style mental duel. The story is lighthearted, but the steps can be confusing if you’ve never done a debate battle before.

How to Complete Gift of Gab: Silver Tongue

1. Talk to Song Jiu

You’ll find Song Jiu in Heaven’s Pier village. He explains that someone stole his Inner Ways manual—a massive bandit with a stone pipa. The story sounds exaggerated, but he asks you to meet him at the Northern Vow Ruins. Note: After this, the quest marker may deselect. Re-select it manually on the map just north of the Stone area.

2. Head to the Northern Vow Ruins

Fast travel if you’ve unlocked the waypoint. Song Jiu will be waiting among the broken ruins. After speaking to him, he asks you to escort him to the duel site.
Follow him and deal with any enemies that appear along the path.

3. Meet the Rogue Playing the Pipa

When you reach the river area, you’ll spot a large man standing on a rock while playing a pipa. This is He Wanchun—the “bandit” Song Jiu mentioned. His pipa is normal size, not stone like the story claimed. Talk to him, watch the dialogue, and prepare for what you think is a fight… until the game reveals this is not a physical duel at all.

4. Begin the Debate Duel

This is your introduction to the Debating system—a mental showdown played like a card game. Here’s what to keep an eye on:

  • Opponent’s Mental Focus: Shown at the top
  • Your Mental Focus: Bottom left
  • Inspiration: Bottom right, used to activate card abilities
  • Your Hand: Cards in the center bottom, hover to see effects
  • Contradict Option: Appears sometimes to give you buffs and weaken the opponent

Song Jiu will give you hints during the debate. Use your starting skill (likely Wild Boasts) and play your cards to whittle down He Wanchun’s Mental Focus. The duel is designed to be easy since it introduces the system.

5. Finish the Quest

Once you win the debate, He Wanchun admits defeat, congratulates you, and returns part of Song Jiu’s Inner Ways manual—though he’s “used some of the pages.” After a short farewell, the quest ends and you receive all listed rewards.

Gift of Gab: Silver Tongue is a fun side story that teaches you the debate mechanics without heavy difficulty. As long as you follow the quest markers and make use of your cards during the debate, you’ll clear it easily. With the rewards and a new minigame unlocked, it’s a quick quest worth doing early on your adventure through Where Winds Meet.
