Some animals in Raise Animals require extra steps to unlock, and the Dragon is one of them. Unlike regular pets, you cannot catch a Dragon immediately or find it randomly. Instead, the game uses a progression requirement, and you need another creature first: the Phoenix. If you’ve been trying to figure out how to get the Dragon or why it won’t spawn, this guide will help you understand the full process.
How Dragon Unlocking Works
The Dragon will only appear after you meet a specific requirement. You must ride a wild Phoenix and travel 5000 meters toward the Everdawn direction. Once this distance is completed, the Dragon becomes catchable. This means you cannot get the Dragon until you successfully:
- Find a wild Phoenix
- Ride it
- Travel the full 5000m distance
Only after that will the Dragon spawn.
Step 1: Get the Phoenix
You do not use the Phoenix you start with. It must be a wild Phoenix, because only that one triggers the unlock condition. A Phoenix will appear once you travel over 5000 meters in the world. You don’t need to catch anything before that. Just keep moving forward until the Phoenix shows up. Once it spawns:
- Approach it slowly
- Catch it
- Make sure you bond with it so you can ride it
Step 2: Ride the Phoenix to 5000m
After catching the wild Phoenix, the next step is riding it. While riding, travel another 5000 meters, heading toward Everdawn. The distance must be completed without switching mounts because the game tracks the Phoenix specifically. Tips to make this easier:
- Use speed buffs if available
- Avoid stopping too often
- Stay on course straight toward Everdawn
When the 5000m requirement is completed, the Dragon will finally become eligible to spawn.
Step 3: Catch the Dragon
Once the requirement is fulfilled, a Dragon will appear in the Everdawn area. It won’t spawn before the Phoenix ride milestone, so if you don’t see one, double-check your progress. When the Dragon spawns:
- Approach carefully
- Use normal catching mechanics
- Make sure you have inventory space before attempting
The Dragon is considered one of the more premium creatures in Raise Animals, which is why its unlock method requires a journey rather than simple catching. Once obtained, it becomes a high-value and highly visible animal, especially useful for showing progress inside the Everdawn update. If you’re collecting rare creatures or just want a strong mount, the Dragon is worth the effort. Just stay patient, follow the Phoenix steps correctly, and the Dragon will eventually appear.
