Crafting is the heart of progress in The Forge. As you move deeper into the game, you’ll rely heavily on rare ores and precise forging mechanics to build stronger weapons and armor. This guide breaks down how each crafting mini-game works, how quality tiers are determined, and how forging chances are calculated so you can consistently produce top-tier gear. How Crafting Works in The Forge

The Forge Crafting Guide, How to Craft the Best Weapons!

Unlike simple click-to-craft systems, The Forge requires you to perform each step through in-game mini-games. There are four main phases, and your performance in each one directly affects the final quality of your weapon or armor. Mastering every phase is essential if you aim to craft Excellent, Perfect, or even Masterwork gear.

1. Bellows Mini-Game

This is the first step in the forging process, and it focuses on heating your material properly.

How it works: You’ll see a green button with arrows. Hold it and move your mouse up and down as fast as possible to fill the heat meter on the right. The higher the bar, the better the start of your forging attempt.

Tip: Small, quick movements usually fill the bar faster than moving your mouse in wide motions. Aim to max out the meter before the timer runs out to secure a strong first score.

2. Casting Mini-Game

Once your molten metal is ready, you’ll move on to casting the shape.

How it works: A white wedge moves up and down on a vertical bar, and your goal is to keep it inside the shifting yellow zone. Left-clicking pushes the wedge upward, while releasing lets it fall. The longer it stays in the zone, the higher the casting score.

Tip: Stay close to the center of the yellow zone. The zone moves unpredictably, and anchoring near the middle reduces the chance of slipping out when the direction changes.

3. Hammering Mini-Game

This task has the biggest impact on your final item quality.

How it works: You’ll see two circles—an outer and an inner one. Click exactly when they align to land a Perfect hit. Each Perfect hit improves the quality score, pushing you closer to the higher tiers.

Tip: There’s a slight delay when clicking. To compensate, press a moment before the circles visually line up. This small adjustment makes it much easier to chain Perfect hits.

Quality Tiers in The Forge

Your accuracy across all mini-games determines your final quality. Higher tiers give better stats, making them crucial for tougher content.

Possible quality levels include:

  • Broken
  • Poor
  • Worn
  • Average
  • Good
  • Excellent
  • Perfect
  • Masterwork

Masterwork gear is the ultimate target, and hitting Perfect in every mini-game gives you the highest chance of reaching it.

How Forging Chance Works

Each weapon or armor type comes with its own chance of appearing. These percentages shift depending on how much ore you place in the smelting crucible. Adding more ore generally increases the odds of crafting heavier equipment like greatswords or bulky armor.

Every time you add or remove ore, these probabilities adjust in real time, letting you see the exact chances before forging. Some weapon categories also contain multiple unique items. For example:

  • If Straight Swords have a 3% chance
  • And the Rapier has a 1/8 chance within that category
  • The Rapier’s real drop chance becomes 0.375%

Understanding these layered probabilities helps you control what type of gear you’re likely to craft.

Mastering the mini-games and paying close attention to ore amounts will greatly improve your forging results in The Forge. Once you learn the timing, casting control, and heating rhythm, reaching Perfect or Masterwork quality becomes much more consistent. Stronger gear means easier farming, faster progression, and better odds of clearing tougher enemies across the map.
