6 Dragon Traveler Beginner Guide – What You Should Do First

Starting a new game can feel overwhelming, especially when it mixes idle mechanics, manual combat, and a huge roster of characters. Dragon Traveler has officially opened its Closed Beta Test (CBT) as of November 27, and if you’re stepping into the world for the first time, this guide will help you understand what to focus on right away.

The goal is simple: learn the basics, build a strong early team, and make the most out of the huge rewards given during the CBT. Also check out our Dragon Traveler Tier List for those that are new to the game!

Understanding the Gameplay Basics

Dragon Traveler blends idle progression with active battles. When you log in, the game auto-collects resources based on how long you’ve been offline, giving you EXP, materials, and gear parts. This lets you level up multiple units without grinding nonstop.

During combat, you can choose between Auto Mode and Manual Mode. Auto Mode works well for easy stages, but switching to Manual lets you control skill timing and ultimates, especially in boss fights. Your team is built using different roles:

  • Dragon/Worm (Main Character): Boosts your team’s stats early in battle.
  • Assassin: Strong single-target burst, perfect for taking out backline enemies.
  • Mage / Flame Witch (SSR from beginner summons): High damage spells and area attacks.
  • Archer: Ranged DPS, better once you upgrade gear.
  • Healer: Keeps your team alive during longer fights.
  • Tank / Defender: Protects fragile units with shields and frontline presence.

Your early progression depends on balancing your levels. If one character is too far behind, your team’s overall power drops, so spread out your upgrades when needed.

Early Game Priorities and What to Focus On

1. Boost Your Assassin First

The assassin is one of the most useful early-game units. With a few upgrades, she can jump into the enemy backline and eliminate high-damage enemies, making battles easier. Many early dungeons depend on taking out key targets fast.

2. Clear Story Stages for Idle Rewards

Progressing through the main stages unlocks better idle loot. The faster you push through stages, the better your daily resource income becomes.

3. Explore Dungeons Early

Dungeons like Worm Bone Ruins give pieces for new characters. These are crucial for expanding your roster without relying only on random pulls.

Some dungeons require specific classes. For example, ranged-only dungeons will punish you if your archers and mages are under-leveled, so keep them slightly upgraded too.

4. Claim All CBT Freebies

The CBT is overflowing with rewards:

  • 100+ free summons on day one
  • Daily summon tickets for 100 days
  • Free SSR units like White Tiger
  • 40,000+ diamonds from missions and achievements
  • Spin wheel bonuses to upgrade SR units to SSR

Summon everything you can and build your early roster while resources are abundant.

5. Use the Summon System Wisely

You’ll unlock several features as you summon:

  • Guaranteed SSR every 40 pulls
  • Wish List (after 300 total pulls) to target the units you want
  • Limited summons open after 60 pulls

Make sure to use all beginner pulls since the CBT gives rebates on all money spent and resources used.

6. Upgrade Key SSR Units

If you pull the Flame Witch, invest in her. She has strong line attacks, burn effects, and upgrades that unlock more damage once she reaches higher levels. Check your idle rewards often to claim materials, gear, and diamonds needed to upgrade her further.

Dragon Traveler’s CBT gives players a generous start, making it the perfect time to learn the game systems and test different team setups. Focus on pushing story stages, clearing dungeons, claiming all free summons, and upgrading core characters like the assassin and Flame Witch. This early foundation will carry you through tougher content and help you understand how to build teams for the full release later on.
