The Dusky Thread is the first major item you must create to progress through the Astraeus Serenade questline in Fisch. What Is Dusky Thread?
Dusky Thread is a quest-exclusive crafting material used for the Astraeus Serenade rod. You cannot buy it, trade for it, or obtain it from any NPC other than Merlin. The only way to get it is by collecting three specific Radiant Crystals and completing the first quest.
Step 1: Collect All Three Radiant Crystals
Before crafting the Dusky Thread, you must gather the three Radiant Crystals needed for the recipe:
- Breezed Radiant Crystal
- Serene Radiant Crystal
- Celestial Radiant Crystal
All three crystals are caught inside the Mineshaft located in the Chasm. Each crystal mutation requires its own special rod, so make sure you have the correct gear equipped.
Where to Fish
- Talk to Merlin and choose “I need to enter the chasm.”
- You’ll receive Merlin’s Veil, which lets you enter safely.
- Head behind Merlin’s house, jump down, and enter the Mineshaft.
- Fish in the small pool inside this area. All Radiant Crystals come from here.
Rod Requirements
- Breezed: Wind Elemental Rod
- Serene: Duskwire or Polaris Serenade
- Celestial: Celestial Rod
These mutations cannot be obtained through appraising. They must be caught naturally.
Step 2: Return to Merlin
After collecting all three Radiant Crystals, head back to Merlin in the main hub. If all the required crystals are in your inventory, Merlin will show a new dialogue option. Selecting this option will unlock the crafting prompt for Dusky Thread.
Step 3: Craft the Dusky Thread
Choose the craft option from the new dialogue. Merlin will combine your three Radiant Crystals into one Dusky Thread, completing Quest 1 of the Astraeus Serenade line. This item is automatically added to your inventory once the crafting animation is finished.
Getting the Dusky Thread takes effort, especially because each Radiant Crystal depends on a different rod. Once the crystals are collected, though, crafting is quick and straightforward. With the Dusky Thread completed, you’re ready to move on to the next part of the Astraeus Serenade quest and start building toward one of the most sought-after rods in Fisch.
