The Fischmas update brings one of the biggest surprises of the year, giving players a chance to wish for almost any rod they want. With the event running from December 24 to 26, you get three full days to claim a rod that might have been locked behind events, quests, or rare spawns.
This guide breaks down every rod category confirmed for the Fischmas wish event, as well as all rods that will not be obtainable. If you’re planning your choice, this list will help you decide based on power, usefulness, and rarity. Also check out our Fisch Codes for more rewards!
All Rods You Can Wish for in the Fischmas Update
Past Event Rods
Santa will allow you to wish for old limited-event rods. These include:
- Walmart Rod
- Smurf Rod
- Brickbuilt Rod (Lego event)
These rods aren’t strong, but they’re collectors’ items with unique mutations. Wish for them only if you want the rarity, not the performance.
Level Rods
These are rods tied to level progression, and all of them are wishable.
- Astral Hook – One of the strongest rods for progress speed. It’s nearly impossible to lose fish with its passive.
- Fang of the Eclipse – Gives high Solar Blaze mutation chance during a solar eclipse. Mostly useful for spawning specific bosses like the Leviathan.
If you’re choosing between level rods, Astral Hook is the better pick for general gameplay.
Black Market Rods
Every black market rod becomes wishable during Fischmas, including:
- Nate’s Blade – One of the strongest rods ever added. Extremely good passive.
- Sword of Darkness – Gives a powerful mutation after several catches. Very underrated.
- Electric Guitar – A themed rod from the black market rotation.
Nate’s Blade is a high-value wish if you missed it, but Polaris is still often considered the better long-term choice.
Old Quest Rods from Music Venue
The old Underground Music Venue had many quest rods, and almost all of them are included:
- Eardrum
- Duskwire
- Cinderstring
- Chrysalis
- Wingripper
- Polaris Serenade
There are many more from this category, but these are the most notable ones. Wingripper and Polaris stand out as top picks for performance.
Other Old Quest Rods
These rods were once obtainable through older questlines and are confirmed to be wishable:
- Rod of the Cosmos – The only rod in the game that can give Cosmic Relics. Extremely rare and easily a top-three pick.
- Fallen Snowblade – Previously obtainable through winter quests and later made unobtainable. Very likely included since it was once an obtainable rod.
Currently Obtainable Rods
Santa will also allow players to wish for rods that can still be earned normally, such as:
- Fabulous Rod
- Blade of Gorp
- Onirifalx
Any other rod still obtainable in the live game & more. These are not recommended to wish for unless you truly want to skip the grind.
Rods You Cannot Wish For
Developer Exclusive Rods
These rods are locked to devs only:
- Rex Umbreum
- Other internal or dev-only rods
These will not be obtainable through wishes.
Trophy / Competition Reward Rods
Any rod awarded for competitions cannot be wished for.
- Pen Rod
- Other tournament or event reward rods
These were never meant to be common, so they stay unobtainable.
Content Creator Rods
Even though many players ask about them, content creator rods are not part of the event:
- CC rods with creator names/logos
- These rods are not strong anyway, so you’re not missing anything in terms of gameplay.
With confirmation from Nate himself, the Fischmas wish event is shaping up to be one of the most generous updates the game has seen. Whether you want a meta-defining rod like Polaris, a collector piece like Smurf, or a rare utility rod like Rod of the Cosmos, the three-day window gives you plenty of time to log in and secure your pick.
Choose based on what you need most—power, rarity, or collection value—and enjoy the freedom this event brings. If you’re still unsure which rod to pick, feel free to ask for a tier list or recommendation based on your playstyle in Fisch.
