Spooky Steve is one of the toughest bosses added in the latest Megabonk update. His HP number is so large it barely feels real, and for many players, fighting him the first time feels impossible.

The good news is that there is a very reliable and safe method to beat him without needing perfect luck. This guide breaks down the easiest strategy, the best build, and what you should focus on so you can defeat Spooky Steve and unlock Roberto without stress.

Best Character and Build to Use

Athena

The safest and most consistent way to beat Spooky Steve is by using Athena with a crowd-control focused build. This setup is designed to keep the boss permanently stuck while slowly draining his massive health bar. Key weapons to prioritize:

  • Black Hole – Your main damage engine and crowd control tool
  • Ice Cube – Freezes Spooky Steve in place
  • OP Lamp – Doubles Ice Cube effectiveness and control uptime
  • Dexecutioner – Extra damage that scales well over time

You only need one Ice Cube and one OP Lamp for this strategy to work. More is nice, but not required.

What Stats and Upgrades Matter Most

Instead of raw damage, this fight is all about control and uptime. Focus on these stats:

  • Duration – This is the most important stat. Longer freezes mean Spooky Steve cannot move at all
  • Attack Speed – Helps trigger effects like Big Bonk and Unstable Transfusion more often
  • Projectile Count – Makes Black Hole hit more frequently
  • XP Gain – Levels are extremely important before the boss fight

Damage upgrades are optional. You can beat Spooky Steve with low damage as long as your freeze and stun uptime is high.

Items You Should Look For

These items make the fight much easier:

  • Beefy Ring – Scales better than Scarf and is ideal for late game
  • Green Card – Increases luck, helping you find legendaries faster
  • Unstable Transfusion – Adds extra scaling damage over time
  • Lightning Orb – Enables Big Bonk procs for chunk damage

Avoid items that only give small early damage boosts. You want long-term scaling and control.

How to Prepare Before Spooky Steve Spawns

Spooky Steve

Before entering the final crypt:

  1. Explore the map and activate gravestones for extra XP
  2. Use microwaves to duplicate keys
  3. Open as many chests as possible to secure legendaries
  4. Aim for at least 80–100% duration on Ice Cube

Make sure you have at least four keys before returning to the crypt. This lets you open all important areas safely.

How to Fight Spooky Steve Safely

Once Spooky Steve spawns:

  • Keep moving slowly, but stay close enough for Black Hole to hit
  • Ice Cube will freeze him repeatedly, making him unable to attack
  • OP Lamp will extend the freeze effect even further
  • Big Bonk and Black Hole will slowly but surely drain his HP

If done correctly, Spooky Steve will barely move the entire fight. The battle looks long, but it is very safe.

Rewards and What Happens After

After defeating Spooky Steve:

  • You unlock Roberto
  • He drops a chest
  • You can continue farming or push endless mode

This method also allows you to defeat the secondary boss if all lamps are activated.

Spooky Steve looks overwhelming at first, but with the right setup, he becomes one of the safest boss fights in Megabonk. You do not need perfect damage or insane luck. Strong freeze control, long duration, and smart item choices are enough to completely shut him down. If your goal is to unlock Roberto quickly and consistently, this is by far the easiest and most reliable strategy to use.
