Pickaxes are usually easy to get in the Forge, as most of them can be bought directly from Miner Frank on each island. However, the Mist Pickaxe in the Frostspire Expanse works differently. You cannot simply walk in and buy it with money. There is a full questline you must complete first.

This guide explains how to unlock the Mist Pickaxe, how the recipe system works, and whether it is actually worth your time and currency. Also check out our Roblox The Forge Beginner Guide for those interested and the Race Tier List.

How to Purchase the Mist Pickaxe

The Mist Pickaxe is sold at Miner Frank’s shop in Frostspire Expanse, but it stays locked until you finish a specific quest. Unlike most tools, this pickaxe is tied to progression rather than just gold.

In the Frostspire Expanse update, there are two pickaxes that require quests to unlock, and the Mist Pickaxe is one of them. Completing its quest does not give you the pickaxe directly. Instead, you receive the Mist Pickaxe Recipe, which allows you to purchase it from Miner Frank once the requirements are met.

How to Get the Mist Pickaxe Recipe in the Forge

After arriving at Frostspire Expanse, move up the left path from the docks. You will find Bjorn standing outside his house. Talk to him, and he will ask you to speak with Moro, who is located near the forge on the island. Moro will start a familiar mining questline similar to those on earlier islands, but this time the materials are different. The key quest you need to complete requires you to:

  • Mine 50 Ice Rocks
  • Collect 5 Neurotite Ores
  • Collect 5 Larimar Ores

Mining Ice Rocks is difficult if you are undergeared. If you are still using the Arcane Pickaxe, it is strongly recommended to upgrade first. Mining Ice Pebbles to save up for the Aqua Pickaxe is the best option. The Aqua Pickaxe costs $375,000, has 200 mining power, and provides a +52% luck boost, making it far better than the Tungsten Pickaxe, which suffers from a heavy speed penalty.

Once properly equipped, head into the Spider Cave and start mining Ice Rocks. Neurotite has a drop rate of about 1 in 690, while Larimar drops at around 1 in 575. Both ores are Epic rarity and can be added during forging to increase item value, even though they do not have special traits.

For smoother farming, using a private server is highly recommended, as public servers are often crowded.

After finishing this quest, the next one starts automatically, and you will receive the Mist Pickaxe Recipe as your reward.

How to Use the Mist Pickaxe Recipe

After obtaining the recipe, you might notice something confusing. The Mist Pickaxe Recipe does not appear in your inventory, and it does not show up at the forge either. This is normal.

You do not need to craft anything. The recipe simply unlocks the ability to buy the pickaxe. Once you have the recipe, go back to Miner Frank’s shop, and the Mist Pickaxe will now be available for purchase, as long as you have enough money.

Is the Mist Pickaxe Worth It?

The Mist Pickaxe is a Tier 2 tool with a price tag of $500,000, which is a significant investment. When compared to other pickaxes available in Frostspire Expanse, its stats do not justify the cost.

If you already own an Arcane or Demonic Pickaxe, you can farm Ice Pebbles and move straight to the Aqua Pickaxe, then skip the Mist Pickaxe entirely and aim for the Snow Pickaxe later on. The performance upgrade from Mist is too small for its price, making it an inefficient purchase for most players.

The Mist Pickaxe may look appealing at first, but unlocking it requires a long mining quest and a large amount of gold. While it is not a bad tool, it is easily outclassed by better options in the same area. For players focused on efficient progression, skipping the Mist Pickaxe and saving resources for stronger upgrades is usually the smarter choice in The Forge.
