Ward 11, often called Hell Gate by the community, is one of the highest-risk areas you can enter in GHOUL://RE. This zone is designed for experienced players who want faster progression but are willing to accept serious consequences if they make mistakes. Also check out our Ghoul RE Codes for more rewards!
With permanent death rules and boosted rewards, every fight inside Ward 11 matters. Because of that, access is locked behind a long questline and strict requirements. This guide explains how to unlock Ward 11, how the area works, and how to safely return once you step inside.
How to Unlock Ward 11 in GHOUL://RE
Before starting the unlock process, your character must be Rank 8 or higher. Without this rank, the questline will not appear. Once you meet the rank requirement, open your map in Ward 20 by pressing P and look for the area labeled Hell Gate. Interacting with it does not teleport you but instead gives a clue that points you toward the actual starting location of the quest.
- From there, head to the Construction Site in Ward 20. If you are unsure of the location, use the map to guide you. At the unfinished building, climb the ladder attached to the structure and talk to the Sasaki NPC waiting at the top.
- Sasaki gives you the first objective: defeat 10 players of the same race as your character. This applies whether you are Human, CCG, or Ghoul, and the enemy player’s rank does not matter.
- After completing the requirement, return to Sasaki and speak with him again. Near this area, you will notice a white-haired NPC marked with a “?”. Interact with this NPC to continue the questline.
- At this stage, you must defeat multiple quest bosses. Progress is not shown through a clear counter. Instead, the NPC’s dialogue about your sanity will change as you complete the required boss fights. Keep defeating bosses until the dialogue confirms that your sanity level is sufficient.
Once the NPC confirms you are ready, talk to him again. He will order you to face HIM, which triggers a fight against a buffed Ken Kaneki boss. A red marker will appear on your map showing the boss location. Defeat this enhanced Kaneki, then return to the “?” NPC one last time to permanently unlock Ward 11.
How to Return to Ward 20
After entering Ward 11, you are not stuck there forever. You can move between wards using the Gateway system. Interacting with a gate allows you to switch between Ward 11 and Ward 20, and the ward you enter becomes your new saved spawn location.
However, Ward 11 has PermaDeath mechanics. You enter with three lives, lose one life each time you are gripped, and can gain lives back by gripping other players or bosses. If you lose all lives, your character is permanently dead. Because of this, returning to Ward 20 before taking too many risks is often the safest decision.
Ward 11 Unlock Rewards
Unlocking Ward 11 does not instantly give you items or currency. The real reward is access to the content inside the ward itself. Ward 11 always has 2x rewards active, making it one of the best places for leveling and farming in the entire game.
On top of that, the ward opens up exclusive faction-based missions. These missions allow players to obtain powerful Quinque weapons such as Arata Proto and Joker V2, which cannot be earned anywhere else.
Ward 11 is not meant for casual play, but for those ready to push their limits in GHOUL://RE. The unlock process is long, the enemies are dangerous, and permanent death is always a threat. Still, the doubled rewards and exclusive gear make it one of the most valuable areas in the game. If you prepare properly and know when to retreat, Ward 11 can dramatically speed up your progression while delivering some of the most intense gameplay GHOUL://RE has to offer.
