Potion brewing is one of the most useful systems in Arcane Odyssey, especially for exploration, PvP, boss fights, and Dark Sea runs. If you understand how brewing works, you can create powerful effects that completely change how you play. This guide explains potion brewing in a simple way, covering reagents, catalysts, potency, and all available potion effects. What Is Potion Brewing in Arcane Odyssey?

Potion brewing allows players to create special potions using cauldrons found around islands. These cauldrons usually appear near alchemist NPCs. Every time you brew a potion, you receive two potions of the same type. To brew a potion, you always need:

  • 2 of the same Catalyst item
  • 1 or more Reagent items

Without both parts, brewing will not work.

Reagents Explained

Reagents decide what effect the potion will have. For example, reagents can create effects like burning, healing, luck, invisibility, or knockback. Each potion effect has two types of reagents:

  • Common Reagents
  • Rare Reagents

The number and type of reagent you add determine the potion tier.

Potion Tier System

  • 1 common reagent = Tier 1
  • 5 common reagents = Tier 2
  • 10 common reagents = Tier 3
  • 5 rare reagents = Tier 4
  • 10 rare reagents = Tier 5

Common reagents are easy to farm and can be found in the world or inside ingredient bags. Rare reagents are much harder to get and are usually found in the Dark Sea or through very rare drops.

Catalyst Types and Their Uses

Catalysts control how the potion effect is applied. You can drink potions, throw them, place them, or apply them to your attacks. Any potion effect can be used with any catalyst type.

Drinkable Potions

  • Vial (0.5x potency) – very common, weakest effect
  • Flask (0.75x potency) – uncommon, decent effect
  • Potion (1x potency) – rare, standard strength
  • Elixir (1.5x potency) – exotic, strongest drinkable

Drinkable potions usually give the highest potency and longest duration.

Throwable Potions

  • Burst Potion (0.65x potency) – small throw
  • Greatburst Potion (0.8x potency) – larger explosion
  • Nova Potion (0.7x potency) – affects ships and explodes on water
  • Supernova Potion (0.7x potency) – stronger ship damage, explodes on water

These are useful for combat, crowd control, and naval fights.

Lingering and Special Catalysts

  • Essence Potion (0.125x potency) – lingers and applies effects up to 8 times
  • Aura Potion (0.1875x potency) – stronger lingering effect, applies up to 16 times
  • Brew (0.85x potency, 5 uses) – placeable cauldron that party members can use
  • Gel (0.3x potency, 3-minute duration) – applies effect to your attacks

These catalysts are best for team play, area control, or long fights.

Understanding Potency

Potency determines how strong or how long a potion effect lasts. If the effect does not have a duration, potency affects its power instead, such as knockback strength from Gale potions. General rules:

  • Drinkable potions have the highest potency
  • Throwable potions have medium potency
  • Gel has the lowest potency

You can increase potion potency by leveling up your Brewing Skill. Brewing more potions raises this skill, and your current level can be checked in the Info UI.
