You’ll need to unlock a new area, complete a questline, and defeat several powerful enemies first. This guide explains every step clearly so you don’t miss anything.
Unlocking the New Area in World 3
To begin the process, head to World 3 and cross the bridge toward the first cave. Instead of going straight in, turn right toward the small campsite area. Here, you’ll find a Raven NPC. This raven starts the full questline required to unlock the new zone tied to the Dragon Head Pickaxe. The raven will send you into the Spider Cave multiple times with different objectives, including:
- Killing small spiders and pebbles
- Defeating larger spiders and rock enemies
- Bringing back specific ore items
These quests are straightforward but mandatory, so make sure you complete all of them.
Farming the Spider Boss Heart (Very Important)
During the raven’s questline, you’ll be asked to defeat the Spider Boss inside the Spider Cave. This step is extremely important. You must obtain the Spider Boss Heart, which is a drop from the boss. This item is required later, so it’s strongly recommended to keep killing the Spider Boss until the heart drops, even if the quest itself is already completed. Farming it early will save you a lot of backtracking later.
Raven Relocation and the New Cave Behind the Forge
Once you complete all of the raven’s early quests, you’ll notice that the raven disappears. This means he has moved to a new location. Go behind The Forge, where you’ll find the raven sitting on a rock near a hidden cave entrance.
Continue completing his quests until he opens a sealed door. After the door is unlocked, speak to Ada, who will tell you to go deeper into the mine. Inside this new area:
- You’ll encounter new spider enemies
- The enemies are manageable and not overly strong
- Red crystal ores (small, medium, and large) can be mined here
A Prismatic Pickaxe is enough to mine all ores in this zone.
Finding the Dragon Head Pickaxe Location
Near the entrance of the gated area, an NPC gives a hint about the pickaxe’s location. Follow the hint by traveling all the way to the back of the cave. At the far end, you’ll see plant-covered walls similar to earlier plant-based quests. Walk through the plants to reveal a long hidden cave path. Inside, you’ll find the Dragon Head Pickaxe, visible but locked behind additional quests.
The Three Required Quests to Claim the Pickaxe
Before you can buy the Dragon Head Pickaxe, you must complete three final quests from nearby NPCs.
Quest 1: Spider Boss Heart
- NPC: Orin
- Requirement: 1 Spider Boss Heart
- If you didn’t farm it earlier, return to the Spider Cave and defeat the boss again until it drops.
Quest 2: Yeti Heart
- Requirement: Yeti Heart
- Location: World 3 Peak Cave
To farm Yetis:
- Go to the peak area in World 3
- Travel all the way to the back of the cave
- Yetis spawn only in this area
Yetis can drop Yeti Hearts, which are also used in crafting. Life-steal builds make this fight much easier.
Quest 3: Golem Boss Heart
- Requirement: Golem Heart
- Location: World 3 Peak (back area)
The Golem Boss spawns every 30 minutes, at the top and bottom of the hour. The boss has not been buffed, so players with decent gear can either dodge mechanics or simply out-damage him. Once the Golem Heart drops and the quest is completed, you’ll be eligible to purchase the pickaxe.

Compared to previous top-tier pickaxes, the Dragon Head Pickaxe offers clear improvements:
