The latest update in The Forge has caused a lot of frustration across the community. Many players feel the game has become less rewarding and far more grind-heavy than before. Player numbers have dropped hard, and while this may be temporary, the reasons behind it are very clear. This guide breaks down what went wrong in the new update, why players are upset, and which systems are causing the biggest issues right now. Why Players Are Angry With the New Forge Update
The biggest source of anger comes from the new armor progression. Armor is one of the most important parts of The Forge, and the update locked new armor tiers behind extremely rare items. The problem is not just rarity, but how these items are obtained.
To unlock higher-tier armor, players must complete the Raven questline. One of the required items is the Stolen Heart, a new ore found only in Raven Cave. This ore has a drop chance around 1 in 54,000, making it rarer than many previous endgame materials.
What makes this worse is that the Stolen Heart only comes from a special heart-shaped ore that barely spawns. In normal servers, you may not see it at all. Players with VIP servers can rejoin repeatedly to force spawns, which makes the system feel pay-to-win.
Stolen Heart vs Other Rare Items
The rarity itself would not be a problem if the method was fair. For example, Yeti Hearts or Golem Hearts have similar odds, but they drop from enemies. You can actively farm them and see progress. Stolen Hearts are different:
- They come from ores with unknown multipliers
- You can spend hours mining and get nothing
- Even with luck potions, results are inconsistent
Many players report grinding for 20–40 hours without getting a single Stolen Heart.
Crafting Armor Feels Punishing
Crafting armor is another major issue. Even if you get ultra-rare ores like Gargantuan, you can still end up with old armor sets such as Knight Chestplates. This makes the grind feel pointless. The problem gets worse in later worlds:
- World 3 still allows low-tier armor drops
- New armor has lower chances than old armor
- You can lose rare materials to bad RNG
This makes progression feel backwards instead of rewarding.
Weapon and NPC Progression Issues
Weapons suffer from the same problem. Some swords have absurd odds, like 1 in 10,000, while stronger options are locked behind extreme RNG.
There is also a new Goblin NPC questline that costs over 500,000 coins to complete. The reward unlocks a crown recipe that is actually worse than existing helmets. Unlocking it only lowers your chances of getting better gear, making the quest not worth doing.
AFK Features Help, But Not Enough
The update did add AFK mining spots where ores respawn endlessly. While this helps casual players, it does not fix the core issue. Spending hours mining just to get useless ores still feels bad, even with AFK systems.
The Forge is still a great game, and it is clear the developers care. However, the new update pushed grind and RNG too far, especially with armor progression. Rare items should feel hard but fair, not impossible or misleading. If armor drops, crafting odds, and Stolen Heart spawns are adjusted, the game can recover quickly. Until then, many players will continue to feel burned out and unrewarded by the current system.
