Weapon Grease Arcane Odyssey Guide, What It Is & How to Use!
Arcane Odyssey’s full release introduced several new mechanics, and one of the most important changes for weapon users is Weapon Grease. This system allows players to permanently add extra status effects to their weapons, making builds more flexible and combat more interesting. If you are confused about how grease works, how to craft it, or whether it is worth using, this guide breaks everything down in a clear and simple way. What Is Weapon Grease in Arcane Odyssey?
Weapon Grease is a new weapon slot mechanic added in the full release. Every weapon now has a small slot that allows grease to be applied. Once applied, grease adds a damage-type status effect to all weapon skills. Examples of status effects from grease include:
- Burning
- Poison
- Other damage-over-time effects
Grease does not replace existing effects like Bleed. Instead, it stacks separately, meaning one weapon can apply multiple status effects at once.
Important Rules You Should Know
Before crafting grease, there are some key limitations to keep in mind:
- Grease is permanent once applied
- It reduces base weapon damage (around 15%)
- It cannot be removed later
- It cannot be used on ranged weapons
- It must be a damage-based status, not healing or buffs
Because grease is permanent, it is best to apply it to weapons you can easily replace or craft multiple times.
How to Craft Weapon Grease
Weapon Grease is brewed at a Cauldron, similar to potions, but with special requirements. Required Materials, To craft any type of grease, you need:
- 2 Kraken Ink Sacks (used as a catalyst)
- 10 Tier 2 reagents related to the desired status effect
You only get one grease per craft, so materials should be used carefully.
How to Make Burning Grease

To craft Burning Grease, you need:
- 10x Liquid Starlight
- 2x Kraken Ink Sacks
Kraken Ink Sacks can be obtained by:
- Defeating the Kraken in the Dark Sea
- Opening Catalyst Bags from daily rewards (chance-based)
Once brewed, the grease becomes a canister item that can be applied directly to a weapon.
How to Apply Grease to a Weapon
Applying grease works similarly to using a scroll. Steps:
- Open your inventory
- Find the grease canister
- Select the weapon you want to apply it to
- Confirm the application
After applying grease:
- The weapon gains the status effect on all skills
- The weapon keeps its gem slot
- The weapon visually changes slightly (color tint)
Does Weapon Grease Synergize With Other Effects?
From testing, grease effects do not currently synergize with other effects to create new reactions. For example:
- Bleed + Burning does not cause Petrify
- Each status effect applies independently
Enemies can still take damage from multiple effects at once, but no advanced reactions seem to trigger yet. This may change in future updates.
Is Weapon Grease Worth Using?
Weapon Grease is not a straight upgrade, but it adds depth to weapon builds.
Pros
- Adds extra damage over time
- Makes weapons feel more unique
- Strong for sustained fights and mob clearing
Cons
- Permanent damage reduction
- No current synergy effects
- One-time use per weapon
For players who enjoy experimenting with builds, grease is a solid quality-of-life addition. For pure damage-focused setups, the damage loss may not always be worth it.
Weapon Grease in Arcane Odyssey is a new system designed to add customization rather than raw power. While it does not currently create powerful status synergies, it still offers new ways to tailor weapons for different playstyles. If you are willing to sacrifice some base damage for added effects, grease can be a useful tool, especially for melee-focused builds.
