Hytale Animal Taming Guide, Can You Adopt Pets & Mounts?

Hytale’s world, known as Orbis, is huge and filled with different biomes, landmarks, and creatures. Exploring on foot can be fun at first, but as distances grow, traveling everywhere starts to feel slow. Naturally, many players wonder if they can tame horses or use mounts to move faster across the map.

This guide explains the current animal system in Hytale, what you can and cannot do in Early Access, and how existing tools like the Feed Bag and Capture Crate work as temporary alternatives to taming.

Can You Tame Animals in Hytale?

Right now, traditional animal taming is not available in Hytale. The developers have confirmed that full taming mechanics will be added later in development, but during the current Early Access phase, players cannot permanently tame animals.

That said, Hytale already includes a few systems that let you interact with animals in useful ways. While these methods do not truly tame animals, they allow you to lure or capture them, which can be helpful for resource gathering and base management.

How the Feed Bag Works in Hytale

The Feed Bag is used to attract animals to a specific location, usually near your base. It does not tame animals, but it makes them easier to manage.

1. Open the Pocket Crafting menu and create a Workbench using: 4 Tree Trunks +  3 Stone
2. Place the Workbench and interact with it.
3. Open the Crafting tab and craft a Farmer’s Workbench using: 6 Tree Trunks + 20 Plant Fiber
4. Place and interact with the Farmer’s Workbench.
5. In the Farming tab, craft a Feed Bag using: 10 Wheat + 5 Vegetables +  5 Fruit + 10 Essence of Life!
6. Equip the Feed Bag in a quick slot and place it near your base.

Once deployed, animals will slowly move toward the Feed Bag. This is mainly useful for farming animals for resources rather than keeping them as pets or mounts.

How to Use the Capture Crate

Another option for handling animals is the Capture Crate.

• Crafted at the Farmer’s Workbench
• Requires: 4 Wood,  50 Essence of Life

After crafting:

1. Equip the Capture Crate in a quick slot.
2. Use it on small animals to capture them.
3. Transport them back to your base.

This method stores animals instead of taming them. Captured animals do not follow commands or act as mounts, but it is useful for moving wildlife safely.

Are Mounts Available in Hytale?

Mounts are planned but not playable yet. The developers have confirmed that players will eventually be able to ride:

• Horses
• Camels
• Tetrabirds

However, mounting and riding animals is not implemented at this stage of Early Access. While these creatures exist in the game world, they cannot currently be tamed or ridden.

While you cannot tame horses or ride mounts in Hytale yet, the groundwork is already in place. Tools like the Feed Bag and Capture Crate give players early ways to interact with animals while waiting for full taming mechanics. As development continues, proper animal taming and mounts are expected to become major features, making exploration across Orbis faster and more enjoyable.
