Dragon Traveler How to Upgrade and Level Up Heroes!
Feeling like your heroes are falling behind in Dragon Traveler? Improving their power is a key part of progressing through tougher stages. This guide breaks down how hero upgrades work, where to do them, and whether upgrading is actually necessary, especially since the requirements can take time to complete.
Dragon Traveler is available on the App Store. If you want to learn more about individual heroes and their abilities, you can also check a full character breakdown or a tier ranking to see which units are worth investing in first.
How Hero Upgrades Work in Dragon Traveler
To upgrade a hero, you need to access the Star Upgrade menu. From there, choose the character you want to improve and check the upgrade requirements. These requirements change based on how many times that hero has already been upgraded.
In most cases, upgrading requires:
- One duplicate copy of the same hero
- One additional hero of the same rarity or type
This system means you must sacrifice other units to strengthen your main character. Because of this, upgrading is much easier for common or low-rarity heroes and far more difficult for high-rarity ones.
For example, upgrading SSR heroes can be especially challenging. Not only are they rare to pull, but you also need an extra copy of them, which makes the process slower and more resource-heavy.
Is It Necessary to Upgrade Heroes?
If your goal is to push further into the game, then upgrading heroes is eventually unavoidable. For early-game players, upgrading low-rarity heroes is strongly recommended. These units are easier to obtain duplicates for, making them ideal for early progression. They can carry you through a large portion of the game when upgraded properly.
Once you start unlocking SR and SSR heroes, you can delay upgrades for a while. These characters are naturally stronger and can perform well without immediate investment. However, this only works up to a certain point.
As difficulty increases, even high-rarity heroes will start to struggle. When that happens, upgrading becomes essential. Each upgrade increases stats and unlocks additional skills, giving your team the power boost needed to handle harder enemies.
Hero upgrades are a core progression system in Dragon Traveler. While the duplicate requirement can slow things down, especially for SSR units, upgrading is necessary if you want to keep advancing. Focus on upgrading lower-rarity heroes early, save resources for high-rarity units later, and upgrade them when content starts to feel overwhelming. With smart planning, you can avoid wasting valuable units while still building a strong team.
