Some materials in Abyss are much harder to obtain than regular fish, and Fish Bone is one of the items that often confuses players. If you are working through the Ancient Sands quests, especially Marcus’s missions, you will eventually need several of these. Understanding where Fish Bone comes from and how the fishing mechanic works makes the grind much easier. Also check out Roblox Abyss Codes for more rewards.

Where to Find Fish Bone in Abyss

Fish Bone is exclusive to the Ancient Sands biome. You can only obtain it while fishing in this region, and it shares the same reward system used for special items like geodes.

When you fish in Ancient Sands, there is a chance that the bonus reward from the fishing mini-game is replaced with a Fish Bone. In other words, you are not targeting a visible fish in the water. Instead, the item comes from successfully completing a special chest event during fishing.

How the Fish Bone Mini-Game Works

While fishing, you will occasionally see a Treasure Chest icon appear on the mini-game bar. This event happens in roughly one out of every five fishing attempts. When it shows up, you are given a second progress bar tied to the chest.

To secure the extra reward, you must complete the chest bar before finishing the main fishing bar. A reliable method is:

  • Fill the main fishing bar to about 70–75%
  • Switch your focus to the Treasure Chest bar
  • Continue until a check mark confirms completion
  • Return to the main bar and finish the catch

If you ignore the chest bar and complete the main bar first, you lose the bonus reward. In Ancient Sands, a successful chest completion can grant a Fish Bone instead of the usual geode reward. Repeating this process is the only way to farm the item consistently.

How to Use Fish Bone in Abyss

Fish Bone is mainly a quest material for Marcus, the Archaeologist in Ancient Sands. Several of his missions require you to hand over Fish Bones, and finishing his questline is impossible without them.

Here are the Marcus quests that consume Fish Bones:

Deeper Analysis

  • Fish Bones required: 1
  • Rewards: $1,600, Star Shards, Small Oxygen Pods

Shifting Evidence

  • Fish Bones required: 2
  • Rewards: $3,850, Speed Potion, Basic Oxygen Pods

Beyond My Reach

  • Fish Bones required: 6
  • Rewards: $7,800, XP Potion, Cactus Geodes, Burger

Across Marcus’s full storyline, you will need a total of 9 Fish Bones. Completing these quests pays out a large amount of money and useful items, including potions, oxygen supplies, and rare materials.

Since Fish Bones depend on the chest mini-game trigger, patience is important. Fish repeatedly in Ancient Sands, prioritize completing the chest bar whenever it appears, and carry enough oxygen to stay underwater longer. With steady farming, you can gather all the Fish Bones needed and move through Marcus’s questline without unnecessary delays in Abyss.
