What Is the Traveling Merchant in Sorcerer Ascent?

The Traveling Merchant is a special NPC vendor that appears on a timed spawn. It sells valuable items like:

  • Teleport scrolls for fast travel
  • Soul swap stones
  • Domain-related materials

These items are extremely useful for progression and mobility, which is why many players try to find the merchant every time it spawns. The merchant appears roughly once every hour. There is also an optional notifier game pass that alerts you to the spawn location, but you can still find it manually using the locations below.

How to Unlock the Merchant Room

When you arrive at a merchant spawn area, you cannot access the shop immediately. You must first complete a five-button puzzle. Each location contains five hidden buttons placed around nearby structures. They are usually found:

  • Under or near a bridge
  • On top of a small elevated spot
  • Behind a building
  • Around the next building
  • Somewhere close to the main area

Press all five buttons to unlock the downstairs entrance. After that, the merchant room opens and you can enter to shop.

All Traveling Merchant Locations

Based on the marked areas in the images, these are the known Traveling Merchant spawn points.

1. Yoshiwara City

One spawn is located in Yoshiwara City, near the side of a building along the street. Check corners and walls around nearby structures for the puzzle buttons. Once activated, the entrance to the merchant area opens below.

2. Kanazawa Town (Behind the Scroll Shop)

Another location is behind the scroll shop in Kanazawa Town. Search behind the building and around the back alleys. The buttons are hidden around the shop exterior and nearby structures.

2. Outside Yoshiwara City (Near Insomnia Quest)

You can also find a spawn outside Yoshiwara City, close to the Insomnia quest giver. Explore the surrounding area and interact with hidden buttons near rocks and buildings to unlock the merchant entrance.

3. Behind Kaito Village Field

This spawn appears behind Kaito Village, near the field wall. The buttons are spread around the field edge and nearby terrain. Once all are pressed, the underground shop opens.

4. Ruined Village Secret Room

In the Ruined Village, the merchant connects to a hidden room. Search the main path and nearby ruins for the five buttons before accessing the secret entrance.

5. Colosseum Area

The final known location is near the Colosseum. Look around the outer structure and nearby walkways. The puzzle buttons are hidden along the environment close to where the merchant entrance appears.

What to Buy First From the Merchant

If you have limited currency, prioritize these purchases:

  1. Teleport scrolls for faster travel between villages
  2. Soul swap stones for build flexibility
  3. Domain materials for progression upgrades

Teleport scrolls provide the biggest quality-of-life improvement early on.

Tips for Farming While Waiting for the Spawn

Since the merchant spawns on a timer, use the waiting period efficiently:

  • Farm soldiers for extra materials
  • Join world events for bonus rewards
  • Open lucky boxes to gather soul points

This ensures you have enough currency ready when the merchant appears.

The Traveling Merchant is one of the most valuable rotating vendors in Sorcerer Ascent. Learning the spawn locations and mastering the five-button puzzle saves time and lets you consistently access rare items. Once you get used to checking these spots, tracking the merchant becomes part of your normal gameplay loop, helping you move faster across the map and progress much more smoothly.
