The Scoria Reach update adds a dangerous volcanic island and several new rods, including the powerful Daybreaker Rod. This rod is locked behind progression, so you cannot buy it right away. You need to explore the island, survive the heat, and complete a large part of the new bestiary first. This guide explains every step you need to follow to unlock and buy the Daybreaker Rod. Step 1: Travel to Scoria Reach and Survive the Heat
Scoria Reach is a lava-covered island with constant heat damage. When you first arrive, your health will drop quickly if you stay exposed for too long.Your first goal is to buy the Scoria Armor Suit. To unlock it, you must reach 20% completion of the Scoria Reach bestiary. Catch new fish around the island until you hit that mark, then purchase the armor from the vendor. The armor makes exploration much safer and lets you fish in hot zones longer.
Step 2: Farm the Scoria Reach Bestiary to 50%
The Daybreaker Rod requires 50% bestiary completion in Scoria Reach. This is the main grind. To reach 50% faster:
- Fish in multiple locations, including the volcano interior
- Explore hidden fishing spots around cliffs and lava pools
- Use totems to trigger better fishing conditions
- Focus on catching unique species instead of repeating the same fish
Some rare fish, like special serpents and volcanic species, appear in specific conditions. Fishing inside the volcano can give you key entries needed to push past 50%.
Step 3: Use the Scoria Mines for Extra Materials
While grinding the bestiary, visit the Scoria Mines. Here you can use lava clam pearls to activate mining crabs. These crabs gather ores and materials that count as new catches and help expand your collection.
Simply equip a pearl from a lava clam and assign it to a crab. After a short time, you can collect ores like slag and volcanic minerals. These discoveries help fill out your progression and add useful resources.
Step 4: Save 750,000 Coins
Even after reaching 50% completion, you still need 750,000 coins to buy the rod.
The fastest way to earn money is by:
- Selling rare Scoria fish
- Farming mythic catches inside the volcano
- Repeating high-value fishing routes
Keep selling your inventory regularly so you can build funds while working on the bestiary.
Step 5: Buy the Daybreaker Rod
Once you meet the requirements, return to the Scoria vendor and purchase the Daybreaker Rod.
Daybreaker Rod stats:
- Lure Speed: 70%
- Luck: 125%
- Control: -0.05
- Resilience: 25%
- Max KG: High
- Special trait: Enhanced performance in high-heat areas
The rod is designed for volcanic fishing. Its strong resilience makes it easier to handle tough catches, especially mythic fish found in Scoria Reach.
Is the Daybreaker Rod Worth It?
The Daybreaker Rod is a solid upgrade for players focusing on late-game fishing. Its resilience and lava compatibility make it ideal for Scoria farming. While the control stat is low, the rod performs well when upgraded with good modifiers. It is not the easiest rod to obtain, but the 50% bestiary requirement ensures you are already familiar with the island by the time you unlock it.
Unlocking the Daybreaker Rod takes time, but the process naturally pushes you to explore everything Scoria Reach offers. Focus on buying the armor first, then grind the bestiary across different zones while earning coins. Once you hit 50% completion and have enough currency saved, the Daybreaker Rod becomes one of the best tools for volcanic fishing and long-term progression in Fisch.
