The Monkey King questline in Abyss is one of the longest NPC chains you can complete right now. It starts simple, but by the end, you’ll be farming Mosasaurus for hours just to get the final drops. If you want to open the giant door inside the main cave and unlock the secret gear behind it, here’s the full step-by-step guide so you know exactly what to expect. Where to Start the Monkey King Quest
First, head to the main cave in Abyss. Before talking to the Monkey King, make sure you’ve already completed the Builder Monkeys quest, since they unlock the path leading to him. Once you talk to the Monkey King, he’ll give you a series of quests. There are multiple stages, and they gradually become more time-consuming.
Monkey King Quest List (All Stages)
Quest 1
- Catch 3 Banana Tambaqui
- Catch 12 Tambaqui
- Catch 6 Banana
This first quest is very easy. All fish are common and easy to find.
Quest 2
- 5 Sea Turtles
- 7 Tambaqui
- 12 Trout
- 4 Banana Mutated Fish
- 3 Coconut Geodes
Again, nothing rare here. It’s just a matter of time and farming.
Quest 3
- 6 Piranha
- 6 Sea Turtle
- 12 Tambaqui
- 5 Banana
- 3 Grounded Mutated Fish
Piranhas can sometimes feel hard to find in certain areas. If you’re struggling, check the Angler Cave, since it usually has a high spawn rate.
Mid-Game Quest (More Fish + Geodes)
At this stage, you’ll need:
- 3 Toucan Fish
- 6 Piranhas
- 10 Trout
- 15 Discuss
- 5 Banana
- 8 Banana Mutated Fish
- 6 Coconut Geodes
Tip: Don’t open all your Geodes at once in earlier quests. Save some in case later quests require more.
Final Quest – Mosasaurus Grind
This is where things get serious.
You’ll need:
- 3 Mosasaurus Meat
- 6 Jaguar Shark
- 8 Toucan Fish
- 10 Sea Turtle
- 15 Trout
- 2 Jade Mutated Fish
- 7 Grounded Mutated Fish
- 8 Banana
- 12 Coconut Geodes
Important notes:
- You must kill the Mosasaurus yourself.
- If another player helps, the meat gets divided.
- Heads are rare drops.
In some cases, you may need to server hop multiple times to find Mosasaurus. Sometimes you’ll find none for 20 servers, then suddenly multiple spawn in one server.
Quest Bug Fix (Jaguar Fish Update)
At one point, the requirement changed from Sea Turtles to Jaguar Fish in updated servers. If your quest doesn’t complete, try rejoining a newer server. After catching the required Jaguar Fish, the quest should properly finish.
What’s Behind the Monkey King Door?
Once everything is completed, the giant door opens. Inside, you’ll find:
- Secret Harpoon Gun
- New Diving Tube
- Multiple Chests
Secret Harpoon Gun Stats
- Shoots 0.1 seconds slower
- +100 more damage
Even though it shoots slightly slower, the extra damage makes it worth upgrading.
New Diving Tube Stats
- Goes 15 meters deeper
- More oxygen
- More storage
- Slightly slower movement
For average players without game passes, the extra oxygen and storage make this tube very useful.
Is the Monkey King Quest Worth It?
Overall, the full questline can take around 2 to 2.5 hours from start to finish. While the early stages are simple, the Mosasaurus grind is the real challenge. The rewards are solid, especially the Secret Harpoon Gun. If you’re serious about progressing deeper in Abyss and improving your combat efficiency, this quest is definitely worth completing.
Opening that giant door feels satisfying, especially after dealing with rare head drops and server hopping. If you’re planning to take on the Monkey King quest, make sure you prepare enough time, patience, and gear before starting in Abyss.
