Starting a new Roblox RPG can feel confusing, especially when the game includes many systems like stats, techniques, and PvP rankings. Cursed Gear is one of those games where learning the basics early can make a big difference in how fast you progress.

This beginner guide explains the core mechanics of the game, including expeditions, progression systems, attributes, cursed techniques, and combat mechanics. If you are new to Cursed Gear, understanding these systems will help you survive longer runs and avoid losing valuable loot.

Expeditions – The Core Gameplay Loop

Cursed Gear Beginner Guide, How Expeditions, Progression, and Combat Work!

Expeditions are the main activity in Cursed Gear. Every run sends players into a generated map where they complete objectives and collect rewards.

1. Starting an Expedition

Expeditions begin at launch pads located in player bases or academies. Once you create or join a party, stepping onto the pad will start the expedition. The game will then send you to a starting area and assign several missions along with an extraction point. Different environments exist in the game, from frozen cities to coastal towns, and each area contains unique enemies, locations, and hidden loot.

2. Missions

During an expedition, players receive a list of missions based on the area they spawn in. These missions may include:

  • Finding hidden loot caches
  • Defeating enemy groups
  • Exploring specific locations

Completing missions rewards players with time currency, shine, and loot containers. Players do not need to complete every mission to leave the area, which allows them to extract early if they find valuable items.

3. Invasions

When traveling between areas, players may invade another player’s instance. If this happens, the invading player must locate and defeat the opponent. Winning the fight allows the invader to:

  • Continue the remaining missions
  • Take the defeated player’s loot

However, if you create a new instance instead of invading, other players may invade your run instead.

4. Extraction

To keep any items collected during an expedition, players must reach their extraction point. Before leaving, players must clear a final enemy wave known as a veil event. After defeating all enemies, a transport vehicle will arrive and allow players to exit the expedition safely. Failing to extract will result in losing all collected loot.

Progression System

Cursed Gear Beginner Guide, How Expeditions, Progression, and Combat Work!

Progression in Cursed Gear is tied to a currency called Time.

1. Time Currency

Time works similarly to experience points. Players collect it during expeditions by completing missions, defeating enemies, or defeating other players. After a successful extraction, gathered Time becomes stored Time. This stored currency can then be used to upgrade attributes or unlock abilities.

Investing larger amounts of Time at once provides more efficient experience gains compared to spending it in smaller amounts repeatedly. Time can also be used at special machines to unlock skills or obtain cybernetics upgrades.

2. Level System

A player’s level is based on the total amount of Time invested into attributes. As attributes increase, the overall level increases as well. The current level cap in Cursed Gear is 150.

3. Stat Packs

Every 25 levels, players receive a stat-pack reward. These packs allow players to add 25 points to an attribute without increasing their level. At level 150, players can accumulate up to 300 total attribute points.

Attributes Explained

Attributes determine the strength of your character and affect combat performance. Each stat has a grade system ranging from F to SS, with levels from 1 to 5. Stats begin to experience reduced scaling once they reach the soft cap of SF1. The main attributes include:

  • Physicality Increases melee damage output.
  • Durability Boosts maximum health.
  • Output Improves the power of cursed techniques and slightly increases stamina.
  • Efficiency Raises stamina capacity and slightly boosts technique damage.
  • Awareness Reduces stamina damage taken while blocking and increases stamina damage dealt to opponents. It also increases the chance of triggering a True Black Flash.
  • Dexterity Improves overall movement speed.
  • Royal Clan Buff Players who obtain a Royal clan receive a special bonus where one random attribute gains a 10% scaling boost.

Cursed Techniques

Cursed Techniques are one of the most important abilities in Cursed Gear. These powers represent the player’s cursed energy and define their combat style. Currently, the game includes more than 75 different techniques. How to Obtain Techniques, Techniques are unlocked through Technique Shards. Players can obtain these shards by:

  • Completing missions
  • Opening loot caches
  • Defeating enemies
  • Looting defeated players

Collecting three identical shards allows players to combine them into a Cursed Technique Crystal. Using this crystal unlocks the associated technique. Players can replace their technique later by repeating the shard process, although any upgrades applied to the previous technique will be lost.

Black Flash Combat Mechanic

Black Flash is a special combat mechanic that rewards precise timing.

Black Flash

When attacking, players can activate Black Flash by pressing a specific key right as their attack connects. This action increases stun duration on attacks, making it easier to extend combos. This mechanic also reduces knockback on certain attacks, allowing players to chain additional hits.

True Black Flash

Occasionally, a perfectly timed Black Flash triggers a True Black Flash. This rare event deals massive damage and heals the player slightly. Although it is largely luck-based, increasing the Awareness attribute can slightly improve the chance of triggering it.

Heian Rating (PvP Ranking)

Heian Rating, often called HR, acts as the game’s PvP ranking system. Players unlock HR after reaching Tier 2, which begins at level 25. From that point onward, defeating other players will increase HR while losing fights will reduce it. HR is not only used for ranking but also as a currency in certain locations such as the Black Market. Players can exchange HR for rewards like:

  • Skill upgrades
  • Curse energy color customization
  • Clan rerolls
  • Character appearance changes

These rewards allow players to improve their builds or customize their characters further.

Cursed Gear offers a mix of PvE missions, PvP encounters, and character progression that rewards both skill and strategy. Learning how expeditions work, managing your Time currency, and understanding the attribute system will help you build a stronger character over time. For beginners, the most important goal is simple: survive expeditions and extract safely. Once you master that loop, you will start gaining better gear, unlocking new techniques, and climbing the Heian Rating ladder.
