Exploring the world of Crimson Desert is much more fun when you have a companion traveling with you. One of the easiest companions you can get early in the game is a dog pet. These pets follow your character and become a helpful partner during your adventures.
Getting a dog companion in the game is actually quite simple, but many players do not realize how the trust system works. You need to slowly build trust with a stray dog before it agrees to follow you. If you do the steps efficiently, you can unlock a pet very quickly. This guide explains how to tame a dog and turn it into your companion in Crimson Desert.
Find a Dog in the World
The first step is locating a stray dog somewhere in the world. Dogs can usually be found wandering around towns or nearby areas. For example, one dog can be found near Holland Town, not far from the butcher shop. Once you find a dog, interact with it and use the pet option. Each time you pet the dog, it increases its trust level. However, there is a daily limit.
- You can pet the dog 5 times per day
- Each interaction gives 5 trust
- Total trust gained from petting daily: 25 trust
Once you reach that daily limit, you will need another method to increase trust.
Increase Trust by Feeding the Dog
After petting the dog, the next step is feeding it meat. You can buy meat from a butcher in Holland Town. The cheapest option is usually Tough Meat, which costs around 10 coins. Buy several pieces of meat, then return to the dog.
Follow these steps:
- Open your inventory
- Select the meat item
- Use the discard option to drop the meat on the ground
- Drop the meat one piece at a time
The dog will start eating the meat you drop. Each piece increases the dog’s trust.
Important limits to remember:
- The dog will only gain trust from 4 pieces of meat per day
- Combined with petting, the maximum daily trust is 55
Skip Time to Continue the Process
Since there is a daily limit, you need to wait until the next day to continue building trust. The fastest way to do this is by using a bonfire. Here is how to skip time:
- Find a nearby bonfire
- Equip your lantern
- Interact with the bonfire
- Choose the wait option
- Wait until 12:00 AM (midnight)
Once the new day begins, the trust limits reset. You can pet and feed the dog again.
Reach 100 Trust to Tame the Dog
To turn the dog into your companion, you need to reach 100 trust. Example progression:
- Day 1: 55 trust
- Day 2: Pet and feed again until you reach 100 trust
After reaching the required trust level, a new interaction option will appear called Take In. Select this option, and the dog will officially become your pet.
How to Use Your Pet
After taming the dog, it will be registered in your Pets menu.
To access it:
- Open your inventory
- Navigate to the Pets tab
- Select your dog
From this menu, you can:
- Summon the pet
- Unsummon the pet
- Release the pet
Once summoned, the dog will follow you during your journey in Crimson Desert.
Taming a dog in Crimson Desert is a simple process once you understand how the trust system works. By petting the dog, feeding it meat, and resetting the daily limit using bonfires, you can quickly reach the required trust level.
With a little planning, it is possible to unlock a pet companion in only a short amount of time. After reaching 100 trust and choosing the Take In option, your new dog companion will be ready to travel with you across the world of Crimson Desert.
