A recent update in CookieRun: Kingdom caused confusion among many Arena players. Shortly after the update that introduced the Dark Enchantress aftermath content and the April Fool’s rocket ship event, players began noticing something strange with Venom Dough Cookie.

Teams that previously performed well suddenly started losing more battles. Many players reported that Venom Dough was getting stun locked much more often and dying earlier in fights. At first, it looked like a hidden nerf, but the real reason turned out to be something different.

Here is the full explanation of what happened and how the issue was eventually fixed. Also check out our Cookie Run Kingdom Tier List and CRK Codes for more rewards!

Arena Performance Suddenly Changed

Before the update, Venom Dough Cookie was performing very well in Arena. Some players even reached Grandmaster ranks using a team that included Millennial Tree, Eternal Sugar, Dark Enchantress, Venom Dough, and Sugar Swan.

With the right treasures and strategy, Venom Dough rarely died during matches and maintained strong survivability. Skill rotations worked smoothly, and the cookie remained reliable in long fights.

However, after the rocket ship update, the same team setup started performing much worse. Venom Dough began getting stun locked early in battles and dying quickly, even when facing the same team compositions that were previously easy to defeat. This sudden change made players believe the cookie had been nerfed.

Players Quickly Noticed the Problem

The issue did not go unnoticed for long. Many players began discussing the situation in community channels and forums.

Some reported that Venom Dough suddenly felt much weaker, while others noticed that skill rotations were behaving differently. Several Arena players also said their teams were losing matches they used to win consistently.

Because the patch notes never mentioned any changes to Venom Dough, many players were confused and assumed the nerf had been added silently.

The Arena Meta Was Affected

Even though Venom Dough appeared weaker, the cookie was still used in many high-rank Arena teams. This is mainly because team restrictions require players to include at least one Super Epic rarity or lower cookie.

Among those options, Venom Dough was still far stronger than other alternatives like Marshmallow Bunny. As a result, most players continued using the cookie despite the sudden weakness.

However, the Arena became more random. Because Venom Dough could now die earlier in battle, it sometimes consumed the revive effect meant for other cookies such as Sugar Swan. This created more unpredictable matches and added extra RNG to the meta.

The Real Reason Behind the “Nerf”

The problem was not an intentional balance change. Instead, it came from a bug that appeared after a skill fix. Venom Dough has a passive ability called Venom Aura, which gives allied cookies debuff resistance. Before the update, this passive was not working properly for cookies positioned behind Venom Dough.

During the rocket ship update, the developers fixed this issue so that the debuff resistance effect finally worked as intended. Unfortunately, fixing that bug created another one.

Venom Dough is supposed to gain two stacks of Venom Core at the start of battle if Dark Enchantress Cookie is on the team. These stacks increase survivability and help the cookie resist early damage.

After the update, those stacks were no longer applied. Without them, Venom Dough became much easier to stun and defeat at the beginning of fights. This explains why players noticed the cookie dying more frequently in Arena.

Developers Responded and Fixed the Issue

After many players reported the problem, the developers acknowledged the bug in their official community channels.

They confirmed that Venom Dough failing to gain Venom Core stacks when paired with Dark Enchantress was not intended. The team began investigating the issue and later released a fix.

Once the patch was applied, Venom Dough started receiving the correct two stacks again, restoring the cookie’s expected survivability in Arena battles.

The Venom Dough situation shows how small bugs can significantly impact gameplay, especially in competitive modes like Arena. What initially looked like a secret nerf turned out to be an unintended issue caused by a skill fix.

Fortunately, the developers responded quickly after players reported the problem. Once the bug was fixed, Venom Dough returned to its normal performance.

This also highlights the importance of community feedback. When players report issues and share their experiences, it helps developers identify problems faster and keep the game balanced for everyone.
