Infected Mode Knockout Guide, How to Win Every Match!
Knockout recently received one of its biggest updates so far, adding several new features and events for players to explore. One of the most interesting additions is the new Infected Mode, a limited-time game mode that completely changes how matches work.
Instead of the usual Knockout gameplay, this mode focuses on survival. Players must avoid getting infected while the infection spreads across the map. Matches can include up to 30 players, which makes the chaos even more intense. If you want to survive longer and increase your chances of winning, this guide explains how Infected Mode works and the best strategies to win more matches.
How Infected Mode Works

In Infected Mode, players are split into two groups at the start of the match:
- Infected Players
- Non-Infected Survivors
At the beginning, only a few players start as infected. Their job is simple: touch other players to spread the infection. Once a survivor gets touched by an infected player, they also become infected and start chasing the remaining survivors. The round continues until one of these happens:
- All survivors get infected, which means the infected team wins.
- At least one survivor avoids infection until the timer runs out, which means the survivors win.
Because the infection spreads quickly, the match often becomes a fast chase across the map.
Best Strategy to Survive as a Non-Infected Player
If you spawn as a survivor, your main goal is simple: stay alive until the timer ends. Here are some important tips that help you survive longer.
1. Keep Moving at All Times
Standing still is one of the fastest ways to get infected. Infected players will always chase the closest target.
Try to keep moving around the map and avoid staying in crowded areas. The more players around you, the higher the chance someone gets infected near you.
2. Use Obstacles and Map Layout
Maps often have objects and structures that can slow down infected players.
Run around corners, jump across obstacles, or move through tight spaces. These movements make it harder for infected players to catch you.
Changing directions suddenly can also confuse players chasing you.
3. Avoid Large Groups
Many players think staying in a group is safer, but the opposite is often true.
If one player in a group gets infected, the infection can spread to several players instantly.
Keeping some distance from other players reduces the risk of chain infections.
4. Hide When the Numbers Get Low
When only a few survivors remain, infected players usually start searching together.
At this point, hiding in less obvious areas can help you survive the final seconds of the round.
Sometimes the last surviving player only needs to survive a short amount of time before the timer runs out.
Best Strategy When You Spawn as Infected
Being infected is completely different. Your job is to hunt down the remaining survivors.
Here are some useful tips.
1. Chase Survivors in Groups
Trying to chase someone alone is difficult because survivors can outrun you.
Working together with other infected players helps corner survivors and remove escape routes.
2. Cut Off Escape Paths
Instead of following directly behind someone, try to predict where they are running.
Move to block their path instead of chasing in a straight line. This forces them into other infected players.
3. Target the Last Survivors Quickly
When only one or two survivors remain, the entire infected team should focus on finding them quickly.
If the timer runs out before they are infected, the survivors win.
Extra Rewards in Infected Mode
Playing this mode can reward players with Brains, a special currency used for Infection rewards. Brains can be used to open Infection Eggs, which contain new skins such as zombie-themed cosmetics. Some skins have extremely low drop chances, making them rare collectibles for players who enjoy unlocking cosmetics.
The new Infected Mode adds a completely different style of gameplay to Knockout. Instead of focusing on standard matches, players must survive an infection outbreak or work together to spread it across the map. Winning in this mode mostly comes down to movement, awareness, and positioning. Survivors need to stay mobile and avoid crowded areas, while infected players must work together to corner the remaining targets. Once you understand these strategies, surviving longer and winning more matches in Infected Mode becomes much easier.
