How to Get the Hot Potato Sword in Paradox

Unlike boss drops or rare loot, the Hot Potato Sword is purchased directly from an NPC. The process is simple, but only if you know the correct location and how the shop works.

1. Go to Karakura Town

Start by heading to Karakura Town (KT). You can use your gate or teleport ability to reach the area quickly. Before you travel, make sure your weapon is equipped. In some cases, certain abilities won’t work properly unless your weapon is already drawn.

2. Locate the Market Area

Once you arrive in Karakura Town, press the comma key ( , ) on your keyboard. This will activate NPC markers on your screen. Look for the marker that points toward the Market. Follow it until you reach the correct area. This step makes navigation much easier, especially if you’re not familiar with the map.

3. Talk to the Market NPC

When you reach the Market, find the NPC responsible for selling items. Interact with them to open the shop menu. This is where you’ll find different weapons and items available for purchase.

4. Buy the Hot Potato Sword

If the sword is currently available, you can purchase the Hot Potato Sword for 200 Yen (¥). That’s all you need to do—no quests or boss fights required.

Your current faction—whether you’re a Soul Reaper, Quincy, or Arrancar—can slightly affect your experience in Karakura Town. While the sword itself is still obtainable the same way, some quests or interactions around the area may differ depending on your faction. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on your quest log so you don’t miss anything important while you’re there.

Getting the Hot Potato Sword is one of the easier upgrades you can grab early on, as long as the shop actually has it in stock. It’s a simple purchase, but the timing element makes it feel a bit more random. If you don’t see it right away, don’t worry. Just check back later, and you’ll eventually catch it when it rotates back into the shop in Paradox.
