The Time Machine quest is one of the longest and most resource-heavy parts of the Lullaby Rod progression in Fisch. A lot of players get stuck here—not because it’s confusing, but because it demands a huge list of items and some preparation across multiple areas. Once you understand how it works, though, it becomes much more manageable. This guide walks you through everything you need to finish the Time Machine quest smoothly, including where to get the items and how to speed things up.

Where to Start the Time Machine Quest

After completing the earlier Lullaby Rod quests, you’ll be sent to the Oil Rig near Roslit Bay. Inside the lab, you’ll meet Dr. Crookspine, who gives you the Time Machine quest. At first glance, the quest looks overwhelming because of the long item list. But there’s one important detail that makes it easier: all items are “obtain-based,” not “catch-based.” That means you can:

  • Trade with other players
  • Use items you already have
  • Get help from friends

You don’t need to farm everything yourself unless you want to.

Full List of Required Items

Here’s everything you need to complete the Time Machine quest:

1. Sundial Totems (50x)

These are found at Sunstone Island and are one of the easier items to gather if you already farm there regularly. However, collecting 50 still takes time, so expect some grinding or trading.

2. Purified Broken Gears (15x)

Broken Gears come from the Zeus section in Wrath of Olympus. To purify them, your rod must have the Insight enchant. This step is simple but easy to overlook if you forget the enchant requirement.

3. Iron Chunks (25x) and Gold Pieces (10x)

Both of these materials are obtained in the Mineshaft at Sunstone Island. While they are common drops, the quantity needed means you’ll likely spend a decent amount of time farming here.

4. Frozen Glacial Fragment (1x)

This item is found in Snowcap, specifically inside Snow Burrow. The tricky part is applying the Frozen mutation, which requires specific rods like Arctic Rod or similar. If you don’t have one, this step can slow you down.

5. Celestial Radiant Crystal (1x)

You can obtain this from the Mineshaft as well, but you need a Celestial Rod to apply the correct mutation. If you don’t have one, you may need to rely on trading.

6. Lunar Rocket Fuel (1x)

This requires two parts:

  • Rocket Fuel (from Mushgrove Swamp)
  • Lunar mutation (via appraisal or specific rods/events)

This is one of the more tedious steps because both parts depend on RNG or extra farming.

Best Strategy to Finish Faster

Instead of farming everything in order, it’s better to optimize your route and reduce wasted time.

Farm Multiple Items in One Location

Spend more time at Sunstone Island since you can gather:

  • Sundial Totems
  • Iron Chunks
  • Gold Pieces
  • Celestial Crystal

This saves a lot of travel time compared to jumping between locations constantly.

Use Trading to Skip Difficult Steps

Items like:

  • Frozen Glacial Fragment
  • Lunar Rocket Fuel

are much easier to obtain through trading. Many players have extras, especially late-game players.

Prepare the Right Rods Early

Make sure you already have:

  • Insight enchant (for purification)
  • A rod capable of Frozen mutation
  • A Celestial Rod

Not having these ready will slow you down more than the farming itself.

Turning in the Quest

Once you’ve collected all required items, return to Dr. Crookspine at the Oil Rig.

After turning everything in:

  • You’ll complete the Time Machine quest
  • You’ll receive the Time Machine item in your inventory

At this stage, don’t worry too much about using the Time Machine yet. It becomes relevant in later parts of the Lullaby Rod progression.

What Comes After This

Finishing the Time Machine quest doesn’t give you the Lullaby Rod immediately. Instead, it unlocks the next phase of the questline, which includes:

  • Catching high-tier rare fish
  • Spending millions of coins
  • Completing final progression steps with Simon

This is where the difficulty ramps up again, especially with rare spawns and expensive requirements.

The Time Machine quest is less about skill and more about preparation. Most of the challenge comes from gathering resources efficiently and knowing where to focus your time. If you try to brute-force everything solo without a plan, it can feel overwhelming. Take advantage of trading, group farming, and proper routing. Once you get past this step, you’re getting much closer to unlocking the Lullaby Rod and moving into the final stages of the progression.
