Tower Defense Simulator just added another starter tower called the Slime Trooper, and surprisingly, it might actually be one of the strongest beginner-friendly support towers the game has seen in a long time. At first glance, many players thought this tower would just be another cheap early-game unit like Scout or Soldier.

However, after testing it in Fallen Mode, the Slime Trooper ended up performing much better than expected thanks to its slowing effect, hidden detection, splash damage, and flying detection later on.

Even though its raw damage is not amazing, the tower becomes extremely useful once you understand its real role. Instead of acting as your main damage dealer, the Slime Trooper works best as a support tower that helps your stronger units survive and deal more damage over time.

What Makes Slime Trooper Different?

Most starter towers in Tower Defense Simulator focus only on dealing damage. Scout, Soldier, and Sniper all become weaker once you reach mid game because their DPS cannot keep up with stronger enemies. Slime Trooper is different because it provides crowd control through slowing effects.

From the early waves, the tower can already one-shot weaker enemies, but the biggest issue is its very slow attack speed. It deals high damage per shot, but fires slowly enough that large enemy groups can easily overwhelm it if you rely on it alone.

The important part is the slime effect. Once enemies get hit, they become slowed, allowing towers like Engineer, Ranger, or Minigunner to finish them off much easier. This makes the tower stay useful even during late-game waves.

Slime Trooper Strengths

The tower has several strong points that make it surprisingly good for a starter unit.

Strong Early Game

For only 300 coins, the Slime Trooper can handle early waves very comfortably. It can one-shot weaker enemies and quickly gains hidden detection through upgrades, which helps a lot during early Fallen Mode waves. Unlike some beginner towers that struggle against hidden enemies, this tower becomes reliable fairly quickly.

Slowing Effect is Extremely Useful

The slowdown is honestly the biggest reason why this tower is good. Once upgraded, enemies can be slowed by around 20% for several seconds. This affects huge groups of enemies and gives your main DPS towers more time to attack. This becomes especially useful against fast hordes, breakers, and crowded waves. Even enemies that normally resist certain crowd control effects can still be affected by the slime slow in many situations, which makes the tower feel much stronger than expected.

Flying Detection Makes It Better

Another huge advantage is that Slime Trooper can target flying enemies. Many cheap towers struggle against flying waves, so having a low-cost support tower that can help slow and damage flying units is actually very valuable. This makes the tower more flexible compared to older starter towers.

Biggest Weaknesses of Slime Trooper

Even though the tower is strong overall, it definitely has problems.

Very Slow Attack Speed

This is the tower’s biggest flaw. The Slime Trooper attacks slowly enough that it struggles badly against large enemy groups if unsupported. Even with upgrades, the fire rate never becomes fast enough to make it a true main DPS tower. If too many enemies appear at once, leaks can happen very easily. Because of this, trying to solo Fallen Mode using mainly Slime Troopers is not recommended.

Poor DPS Value

Compared to stronger damage towers, the price-to-DPS ratio is not very efficient. Towers like Engineer massively outperform it in total damage. The Slime Trooper shines through utility, not raw power. If you spam too many of them, you may end up wasting money that could have gone into better DPS towers.

Best Way to Use Slime Trooper

The best strategy is to treat the tower as support instead of your primary damage source. Place one or two early to handle starter waves, then let stronger towers carry the main damage later. Setting the Slime Trooper to “Strongest” works very well because it can spread slowing effects onto dangerous enemies while your other towers clean up the wave. Later in the game, spreading multiple Slime Troopers around the map helps keep entire enemy groups slowed almost constantly. This setup works especially well with:

  • Ranger
  • Commander
  • DJ Booth
  • Minigunner

The slowdown gives all these towers extra time to attack and increases overall defense stability.

Is Slime Trooper the Best Starter Tower?

Compared to Scout, Soldier, and Sniper, the Slime Trooper stays useful much longer because its slowdown effect still matters during late game. Older starter towers mainly rely on damage, and once stronger enemies appear, they fall off hard.

Slime Trooper avoids this problem because support utility always has value.

It may not replace premium towers or hardcore meta units, but for a cheap beginner tower, it performs surprisingly well and can even help clear Fallen Mode when paired with proper support.


The Slime Trooper is not overpowered as a damage dealer, but it is easily one of the best support-style starter towers Tower Defense Simulator has added. Its ability to slow enemies, detect hidden units, hit flying enemies, and provide splash damage makes it far more useful than most beginner towers in the game.

If you try to use it as your main carry, you will probably struggle because of the slow attack speed. However, when paired with strong DPS towers, the Slime Trooper becomes incredibly valuable throughout the entire match. For only 300 coins, it offers way more utility than most players expected, and it may honestly be the best starter tower currently available in TDS.
