Fast travel in Forza Horizon 6 is much simpler compared to older Horizon games. Players returning from Forza Horizon 5 might expect to spend hours unlocking boards or buying special houses before fast travel becomes useful, but that system has been completely removed in FH6.

Instead of locking the feature behind upgrades and collectibles, the game now allows players to use fast travel almost immediately. However, there is still one important requirement you need to understand before you can teleport across the map freely.

How Fast Travel Works in Forza Horizon 6

In Forza Horizon 6, fast travel is available from the start of the game and does not cost credits. There are no:

  • Fast Travel Boards
  • Special house requirements
  • Credit fees
  • Unlock challenges

To fast travel, simply open the world map, move the cursor to a destination, and confirm the fast travel option. On Xbox controllers, players can press the X button after selecting a location on the map. This makes moving around Japan much faster and more convenient compared to previous games in the series.

You Cannot Fast Travel Everywhere Immediately

Even though fast travel is free, the game still limits where you can teleport early on. The main restriction is that you must physically drive on a road before it becomes available as a fast travel point. Roads you have never visited remain locked until you explore them manually. Because of this, players still need to spend time discovering the map naturally during the early game.

How to Tell Which Roads Are Available

The map uses different colors to show which roads you have already explored.

White or Red Roads

Roads shown in white or red are fully discovered. These roads can be used as fast travel destinations immediately.

Grey Roads

Grey roads are still unexplored. You cannot fast travel to these areas until you drive through them at least once. This system encourages exploration while still making travel much less frustrating after you have already visited an area.

Why Exploration Still Matters

Even with free fast travel, exploring the map manually is still important in Forza Horizon 6. Driving around naturally helps players discover:

  • XP Boards
  • Hidden treasure cars
  • Drift Zones
  • Speed Traps
  • Barn Finds
  • Secret roads
  • Discover Japan objectives

Since unexplored roads remain locked for teleporting, the game still rewards players for taking time to learn the map properly.

The fast travel system in Forza Horizon 6 is much more beginner-friendly than previous entries in the series. Players no longer need to grind for upgrades or spend credits just to move around the map efficiently. However, exploration still plays a huge role because only discovered roads can be used for teleporting.

The more of Japan you explore, the more convenient traveling becomes later in the game. For new players, the best approach is to avoid relying too heavily on fast travel early on and spend time driving through new roads first. This not only unlocks more fast travel points but also helps uncover many hidden activities and rewards across the world map.
