Update 3 in Universal Tower Defense X finally introduced a huge batch of new units, including Universal, Unrivaled, Secret, Exclusive, and Mythic rarities. Players now have plenty of fresh characters to grind for, especially with the arrival of the Universal Festival Banner, new Raids, Legend Stages, and Featured Challenges.
Some of these units are extremely difficult to obtain because they are locked behind endgame content, while others depend heavily on luck from banners and battle pass rewards. If you are trying to collect every new character added in Update 3, here is a complete breakdown of all new units and how you can unlock them.

Joyful Captain (Universal Unit)
The biggest highlight of Update 3 is definitely Joyful Captain, the brand-new Universal rarity unit. This character can only be obtained through the Universal Festival Banner, making it one of the rarest banner pulls currently available in the game.
What makes Joyful Captain special is the massive number of forms and models available. The unit comes with 26 different variants, including both Normal and Shiny versions, bringing the total to 52 models overall. Because of this, many players are already calling it one of the coolest collector units released so far.
Joyful Captain also features multiple upgrade paths, each with different forms inspired by powerful transformations:
Top Path – Kong Gun
The Top Path focuses on heavy-hitting attacks with Kong Gun abilities. This version is built around stronger burst damage and massive impact attacks that work well against tanky enemies and bosses.
Middle Path – Joy Boy
The Middle Path unlocks the Joy Boy form, giving the unit a unique appearance and stronger overall presence during battle. Many players are already targeting this evolution path because of its flashy animations and balanced performance.
Bottom Path – Snakeman
The Bottom Path transforms Joyful Captain into Snakeman, which focuses more on speed and rapid attacks. This path is ideal for players who prefer faster DPS output and smoother enemy clearing.
Gear… Death!
One of the most interesting transformations included in Joyful Captain’s upgrade tree is Gear… Death! This form appears to be one of the strongest visual upgrades currently available in Update 3 and is already becoming highly popular among collectors.
Triple Threat (Unrivaled Unit)
Triple Threat also received a new Unrivaled rarity evolution in Update 3. To unlock this version, players first need to obtain Triple Threat (Hunter) and evolve it into the new Unrivaled form.
The upgraded version comes with both Normal and Shiny appearances, giving collectors another difficult grind target. Since Unrivaled units are considered among the strongest rarities in the game, Triple Threat is expected to become a valuable addition for endgame teams.
Players who already owned the Hunter version before Update 3 have a major advantage because they can immediately begin farming evolution materials.
Dragon Warlord (Secret Unit)
Dragon Warlord is one of the four new Secret units added in this update. Players can obtain this powerful character from the Emperor’s Kingdom World Raid.
Because World Raids usually require coordinated teams and high-level units, Dragon Warlord is not easy to farm. However, Secret units often come with extremely strong stats and flashy effects, making them worth the effort.
Both Normal and Shiny versions are available for players lucky enough to obtain duplicates or rare drops.
Gluttonous Warlord (Secret Unit)
Gluttonous Warlord can be obtained from the Warlord’s Ship Raid. Similar to other Secret units, this character has a very low drop rate and may require multiple raid clears before finally appearing.
Many players are already farming this raid heavily because Secret rarity characters usually remain relevant for a long time in the meta. If you want Gluttonous Warlord quickly, running raids with stronger teammates will help speed up the grind significantly.
The unit also includes both Normal and Shiny models.
Sharpshooter King (Secret Unit)
Sharpshooter King is another Secret rarity character introduced in Update 3. To obtain this unit, players need to clear Conquered Lands Legend Stage Act 3.
Legend Stages are usually much harder than regular content because they feature stronger enemy waves and higher difficulty scaling. Because of that, newer players may struggle to farm this unit immediately after the update launches.
Still, Sharpshooter King is expected to become a valuable ranged damage dealer for many late-game team compositions.
Mochi Pirate (Secret Unit)
Mochi Pirate can be unlocked through the Mirror Dimension Featured Challenge. Featured Challenges are often limited-time or rotating content, so players should prioritize farming this mode before it disappears or changes.
This Secret unit already stands out because of its unique design and strong visual effects. Many players are also aiming for the Shiny version due to how rare Secret Shiny units are in general.
If you want to maximize your chances, make sure to repeatedly clear the Featured Challenge while it remains active.
Quake Warlord (Exclusive Unit)
Quake Warlord is one of the two new Exclusive units available through the Blitz Mode Battlepass. Unlike banner units that rely entirely on luck, Battlepass rewards are more consistent because players can unlock them by progressing through Blitz Mode levels.
This makes Quake Warlord slightly easier to guarantee compared to Secret or Universal rarity units. However, players still need to actively grind missions and complete Blitz Mode objectives.
The unit also comes with both Normal and Shiny versions.
String Warlord (Exclusive Unit)
String Warlord is the second Exclusive rarity character included in the Blitz Mode Battlepass rewards. Similar to Quake Warlord, this unit can be unlocked through Battlepass progression.
Exclusive units are usually limited-time rewards, which means players may not be able to obtain them again once the season ends. Because of this, many collectors are recommending players to prioritize completing the Battlepass while Update 3 is active.
Its unique abilities and flashy attack animations already make it one of the more popular new additions.
Triple Threat (Mythic Unit)
Finally, Update 3 also introduced the standard Mythic version of Triple Threat. This unit can be obtained directly from the Universal Festival Banner.
Although the Mythic version is easier to acquire compared to the Unrivaled evolution, it is still considered a strong unit for many players. Those who manage to obtain multiple copies can later work toward evolving it into the stronger Unrivaled variant.
Because the Universal Festival Banner contains several valuable rewards, many players are currently spending most of their resources there.
Update 3 added one of the biggest unit expansions ever seen in Universal Tower Defense X so far. Between the massive Joyful Captain variants, difficult Secret unit raids, new Battlepass exclusives, and powerful evolutions, players now have plenty of new content to grind through.
For most players, the main priorities will likely be farming the Universal Festival Banner for Joyful Captain and Triple Threat, while endgame players focus on clearing raids and Legend Stages for the Secret units. Since some rewards may become limited later on, it is a good idea to start farming early before the current update cycle changes.
