Marvel Cosmic Invasion brings back the classic arcade beat ‘em up style while mixing in a modern tag-team combat system. Instead of relying on just one hero, success often depends on how well your two fighters work together. Some characters dominate the battlefield alone, while others become much stronger when paired with the right teammate.
With so many heroes available, choosing the best team can be difficult, especially once enemy waves and bosses become more aggressive later in the campaign. This Marvel Cosmic Invasion tier list breaks down the strongest characters in the game, explains their strengths and weaknesses, and also covers some of the best tag-team combinations you can use.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion Character Tier List
S Tier – Best Characters in the Game
These heroes are the strongest overall fighters in Marvel Cosmic Invasion. They can handle most enemy types without constantly switching characters and perform extremely well in both solo and team play.
Phoenix
Phoenix is one of the strongest crowd-control characters in the entire game. Her flaming dash can clear large groups quickly while building combo multipliers fast. She also has a rare ranged grab ability, allowing her to pull enemies from a distance before throwing them around the battlefield.
Her special move is arguably the best ultimate attack currently available because it covers huge sections of the screen and deals massive damage. Phoenix also benefits from a parry mechanic, which gives her extra survivability during difficult fights.
The only downside is that some abilities need recharge time, and she must be unlocked later through campaign progress.
Cosmic Ghost Rider
Cosmic Ghost Rider is easily one of the safest and most reliable characters to use. He excels at both close-range and long-range combat, making him useful in almost every stage.
His missile barrage attack is extremely powerful and can wipe out enemies quickly, while his chain pull drags opponents toward him for easy combos. He can also attack both airborne and grounded enemies with basic attacks, which makes him incredibly flexible.
Unlike some top-tier heroes, he uses dodge instead of parry, but his overall damage and utility still place him among the best characters in the game.
Phyla-Vell
Phyla-Vell is a high-mobility fighter focused on aggressive combos and aerial combat. Her teleport slash allows her to instantly close gaps and continue long combo chains without losing pressure.
She also has strong aerial mobility and performs extremely well against flying enemies. Her charged parry gives bonus cosmic attacks and helps build meter faster, making her very rewarding once mastered.
She does require more effort than some easier S-tier characters, but experienced players can get incredible results from her.
Silver Surfer
Silver Surfer is one of the fastest characters available and completely dominates air combat. His mobility allows him to stay safe while constantly pressuring enemies with long-range cosmic attacks.
He has excellent melee range, strong specials, and powerful parry bonuses that increase his damage output even further. Since many enemies in later stages attack from the air, Silver Surfer becomes extremely valuable for endgame content.
The main drawback is that he unlocks very late into the campaign.
A Tier – Strong Fighters That Need Team Support
A-tier characters are still extremely strong, but they usually need teammates to cover specific weaknesses like poor air control or lack of ranged attacks.
Captain America
Captain America is one of the most balanced characters in the game. His homing shield attack never requires recharging, giving him constant ranged pressure throughout every fight.
He also has a strong parry mechanic that can reflect projectiles and boost team combo damage. While his special attack is decent, it struggles against airborne enemies, and his overall burst damage falls slightly behind S-tier heroes.
Wolverine
Wolverine is one of the best melee fighters available. His attack speed and combo potential make him devastating against grounded enemies, especially during close-range fights.
His healing passive also helps him survive longer battles. However, he lacks reliable ranged options and struggles heavily against flying enemies unless paired with a strong support character.
Storm
Storm focuses heavily on elemental crowd control and aerial dominance. Her special attack covers nearly the entire screen, making her excellent for clearing huge enemy waves.
She also has a parry mechanic and strong mobility, but her close-range combat feels weaker compared to other top-tier heroes.
Venom
Venom combines strong crowd control with heavy damage output. His Symbiote attacks can hit both flying and grounded enemies, making him surprisingly versatile.
While he lacks the speed and defensive tools of higher-ranked characters, he remains one of the best aggressive fighters in the game.
Cyclops
Cyclops excels at ranged combat with his powerful optic blasts. He can switch between melee and long-range combat smoothly, making him useful in almost every situation.
His dodge attack even damages enemies on contact, which adds extra offensive pressure. The lack of a parry mechanic keeps him slightly below S-tier characters on harder difficulties.
B Tier – Good Backup Characters
These heroes work best as secondary team members or assist characters rather than primary carries.
Black Panther
Black Panther is fast, mobile, and great for hit-and-run gameplay. His poison daggers provide useful ranged damage, while his speed helps extend combos for teammates.
His attacks do feel shorter and less impactful compared to stronger melee fighters, though.
Beta Ray Bill
Beta Ray Bill deals excellent damage and has strong hammer-based attacks that can control groups effectively. Unfortunately, his slow movement often causes him to get interrupted during large enemy waves.
She-Hulk
She-Hulk has some of the highest raw damage numbers in the game and works especially well as an assist character. Her biggest problem is slow movement, which makes active combat harder during chaotic stages.
Nova
Nova offers solid aerial combat and balanced ranged attacks, but he does not truly dominate in any specific category. He is still a reliable all-around pick for players who want flexibility.
Iron Man
Iron Man has strong ranged pressure and useful crowd-control abilities. His parry bonuses can temporarily remove ammo restrictions, making him excellent during projectile-heavy boss fights.
His melee attacks feel somewhat awkward at first, especially compared to faster heroes.
The Thing
The Thing works as a tank-focused bruiser with high durability and heavy attacks. His cannonball attack is surprisingly effective against flying enemies, but his lack of speed and ranged tools can become frustrating in faster stages.
C Tier – Situational Characters
These characters can still be fun and useful, but they generally require stronger teammates to perform consistently.
Rocket Raccoon
Rocket works much better as an assist character than an active fighter. His grenades and long-range attacks provide excellent support utility, but his close-range combat is weak.
Players who mainly use him off-field may find him much stronger than his tier placement suggests.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man focuses heavily on mobility and crowd control through web attacks. While he is fun to use, his damage and offensive options feel weaker compared to most of the roster.
He performs better as a support partner rather than the main damage dealer.
Best Tag Teams in Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Cosmic Ghost Rider + Silver Surfer
This is arguably the strongest overall team in the game. Cosmic Ghost Rider handles grounded enemies while Silver Surfer completely controls the air.
Wolverine + Captain America
Wolverine destroys enemies in close combat while Captain America provides constant ranged support with his shield attacks.
Venom + Phoenix
This combo focuses heavily on crowd control. Venom dominates up close while Phoenix clears large groups with powerful specials.
Cyclops + Wolverine
Cyclops handles ranged pressure and flying enemies while Wolverine tears through grounded targets. Their playstyles complement each other perfectly.
She-Hulk + Storm
This team combines heavy damage with strong elemental crowd control. Storm controls enemy positioning while She-Hulk delivers huge burst damage.
Best Starting Characters in Marvel Cosmic Invasion
For beginners, Captain America, Wolverine, and Venom are some of the easiest characters to learn early on. They have straightforward playstyles and remain useful even later in the campaign. If you prefer ranged gameplay, Cyclops and Storm are also great starting picks because they make enemy management much easier during difficult stages.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion has a surprisingly balanced roster overall, and almost every hero can work with the right team setup. Still, some characters clearly perform better thanks to stronger crowd control, mobility, or defensive mechanics like parry.
Phoenix, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Phyla-Vell, and Silver Surfer currently stand at the top because they can handle almost every situation with minimal weaknesses. However, proper tag-team synergy matters just as much as individual strength, especially during harder stages and boss fights.
