Kaizen Fishing System & Weapon Traits Guide – Everything You Need to Know!
The latest Kaizen update introduces two major features that players can start using right away: the Fishing System and Weapon Traits. Fishing gives players a new way to earn rewards, collect fish, and obtain valuable crates, while Weapon Traits add another layer of customization that can make your weapons even stronger. If you’re unsure how these systems work, this guide covers everything from buying your first fishing rod to rerolling weapon traits.
How the Fishing System Works

Fishing is a new activity that allows players to catch fish throughout the world of Kaizen. Fish can be sold for Yen, and players can also obtain additional rewards while fishing. To get started, you’ll need to visit a Fisherman NPC. These NPCs can be found in most villages across the map and serve as the main hub for fishing-related activities. The Fisherman NPC allows you to:
- Buy fishing rods
- Purchase bait
- Sell fish
- Check fishing progression
Buying Your First Fishing Rod
New players can purchase a Basic Rod for only 500 Yen. As you continue fishing, stronger rods become available. However, advanced rods require certain milestones before they can be purchased. Examples of requirements include:
- Catching a specific number of fish
- Catching rare fish species
- Reaching Yen requirements
For example, one rod may require 25 fish caught and 2,500 Yen, while higher-tier rods require rare fish and larger amounts of currency. Because of this, consistently fishing is the best way to unlock better equipment.
How to Get and Use Bait

Bait can also be purchased from the Fisherman NPC. Unlike rods, bait doesn’t require any special achievements or fishing milestones. As long as you have enough Yen, you can buy and use it immediately. Different bait options may improve your fishing experience depending on the fish you’re trying to catch.
Best Place to Fish
One of the most popular fishing locations is the Beach area. The beach offers easy access to the ocean and also includes a nearby Fisherman NPC, allowing you to quickly sell fish or purchase supplies without returning to a village. This makes it one of the most convenient locations for long fishing sessions.
How to Catch Fish
Once you have a rod and bait equipped, head to the water and start fishing. Follow these steps:
- Equip your fishing rod.
- Equip bait from your inventory.
- Face the ocean.
- Hold your mouse button to cast.
- Wait for the fishing minigame to appear.
- Keep the indicator inside the target zone.
- Successfully complete the minigame to catch the fish.
The system is similar to many Roblox fishing games, making it easy to learn for most players.
Should You Use Auto Fishing?
Kaizen includes an Auto Fish option for players who want a more relaxed experience. However, there is a tradeoff. Auto Fishing reduces your luck, which can lower your chances of obtaining valuable catches and rare rewards. For players looking to maximize profits and rare fish drops, manual fishing is usually the better choice.
Fishing Rewards and Crates
Fishing doesn’t only reward fish. Players can occasionally obtain special crates while fishing. During testing, players have reported receiving Expedition Crates through regular fishing sessions. These bonus rewards make fishing worthwhile even if you’re not specifically farming fish for Yen. The longer you fish, the greater your chances of collecting additional rewards.
Weapon Traits Explained
The second major feature introduced in the update is the Weapon Trait system. Weapon Traits provide additional bonuses to weapons and can significantly improve their effectiveness depending on the traits rolled. To access this feature, locate the Weapon Trait NPC. Like the Fisherman NPC, this character can usually be found in villages throughout the map.
How to Reroll Weapon Traits
To reroll a weapon’s traits, you’ll need one of the following items:
- Trait Stone
- Lucky Trait Stone
Both items allow rerolls, but Lucky Trait Stones provide better odds when rolling for desirable traits. Simply interact with the Weapon Trait NPC and select the Change option. After selecting your weapon, you’ll be able to reroll its trait slots.
Trait Slots and Limits
Each weapon can have up to three trait slots. If you’re fortunate, a weapon may roll multiple traits at once, giving it several bonuses simultaneously. One important limitation is the reroll cap. Players can only reroll a weapon a maximum of 20 times by default.
Once the limit is reached, additional rerolls may require a special reset item, game pass, redeem code reward, or another method provided by the developers. Because rerolls are limited, it’s a good idea to save your best resources for high-quality weapons.
How to View Available Traits
The Weapon Trait NPC includes an Index feature. This menu displays all available weapon traits currently in the game, allowing players to see potential bonuses before spending reroll materials. Checking the index can help you decide which traits are worth chasing for your preferred weapon build.
The Fishing System and Weapon Traits update adds two new progression paths to Kaizen. Fishing offers a relaxing way to earn Yen, collect fish, and obtain crates, while Weapon Traits provide additional power and customization for your favorite weapons.
For the best results, focus on unlocking stronger rods, fish manually whenever possible, and save your Trait Stones for weapons you plan to use long-term. With enough patience and luck, you’ll be able to build stronger gear and take full advantage of everything this update has to offer.
