The latest Clash of Critters test server update is packed with new content, including a brand-new Firefly Tatari, Goldrush improvements, quality-of-life features, and several balance adjustments. While everything is still being tested and could change before release, the current patch already gives players a good idea of what’s coming next. Here’s a complete breakdown of the upcoming update and how it may affect both PvE and PvP gameplay.
Everything Shown Is From the Test Server
Before diving into the details, remember that all of these features are currently available only on the test server. The developers may rebalance skills, change rewards, or adjust mechanics before the update reaches the live servers. Because of this, consider the information below an early preview rather than the final version.
New Firefly Tatari (Glowfly)
One of the biggest additions is the new Glowfly, a Fire-element Firefly Tatari. Although it is categorized as a support unit, Glowfly plays differently from traditional healers. Instead of constantly restoring HP, it focuses on protecting allies with powerful shields while also providing utility through paralysis and a unique Glow mechanic.
Its evolution line includes:
- T1 Firefly
- T2 Firefly
- T3 Firefly
- T4 Firefly
Among them, the T4 version features the most impressive visual design and updated effects.
Glowfly Skills Explained
Glowfly’s primary role is protecting the frontline. Its basic ability places a shield on the ally positioned in front of it. If there isn’t a direct frontline ally, the shield targets the nearest valid teammate. When the shield expires or breaks, it deals area damage around the protected unit. As Glowfly evolves, its abilities become much stronger.
T2 Upgrade
At Tier 2, breaking the shield not only causes area damage but also inflicts Paralyze on nearby enemies.
This adds crowd control while still protecting your frontline.
T3 Upgrade
Tier 3 is arguably Glowfly’s biggest power spike. If the shield remains intact instead of breaking, it transfers to another nearby ally. Glowfly can then immediately create another shield for the frontline. This allows multiple teammates to receive protection throughout the battle, making defensive teams significantly harder to eliminate.
T4 Upgrade
Tier 4 further improves Glowfly’s overall effectiveness with additional stat and skill upgrades, making it the strongest version of the new Tatari.
Understanding the Glow Mechanic
Glowfly introduces an entirely new status effect called Glow. According to information shared during testing, Glow has three stack levels.
One Glow Stack
- Restores 2.5% of maximum HP every four seconds.
This is how Glowfly provides healing, even though its main abilities focus on shields instead of direct recovery.
Two Glow Stacks
The second stack allows additional attacks that can inflict Paralyze. While the exact trigger is still being tested, it appears to add extra utility during combat.
Three Glow Stacks
After reaching three stacks:
- All Glow stacks are consumed.
- The enemy directly ahead is pushed back one tile.
- The affected ally restores 7.5% of their maximum HP.
This creates another layer of survivability while also disrupting enemy positioning.
New Hot Evasion Skill
Glowfly also comes with a new Hot Evasion skill. Rather than dealing heavy damage, this ability focuses on support. Different skill levels unlock additional effects:
- Launches bouncing energy orbs.
- Applies Paralyze to enemies.
- Grants Glow stacks to allies.
- Fires a straight-line lightning attack at higher levels.
- Continues distributing Glow stacks to teammates.
The bouncing orb deals only minor damage, but consistently spreads paralysis while helping allies build Glow stacks.
At higher levels, Glowfly gains a lightning strike that attacks enemies in a straight line while continuing to apply support effects.
Overall, the skill is designed to improve team survivability instead of increasing raw damage.
Goldrush Gets Several Improvements
The Island Goldrush mode is receiving multiple gameplay updates aimed at rewarding active players and improving team battles.
1. Stronger Base Defense
Captured tiles now receive additional defensive units. The closer a tile is to your team’s base, the stronger its defenses become, making it much more difficult for opponents to push directly into your territory.
2. Faster Point Generation
Points will now accumulate more quickly over time, including points earned from captured tiles and arena objectives. This should help matches progress at a faster pace while encouraging more aggressive gameplay.
3. League Rewards Changed
Daily League rewards are being removed. Instead, rewards accumulate throughout the event and are distributed all at once on the final day. This makes it easier for players to collect everything in one claim.
4. New MVP Rewards
The top-performing player in each league will now receive an additional MVP reward. Although the exact rewards haven’t been revealed yet, this encourages players to continue contributing even if their team is behind.
5. Top Kill Rewards
The three players with the highest kill counts in each league will also earn bonus rewards. This is a welcome addition because strong individual performances are now rewarded, even if your overall league doesn’t finish in first place.
More Quality-of-Life Features
Several smaller improvements are also included in the update.
Evolution Quest Preview
Players can now view future evolution requirements before reaching the next stage. You’ll be able to check:
- Evolution objectives
- Required activities
- Energy costs
- Future upgrade requirements
This makes planning your Tatari progression much easier.
Event Indicators
Evolution quests now clearly show whether their required event is currently active. If an event isn’t available, its icon remains inactive. Active events receive highlighted icons, allowing players to quickly identify what they should complete.
Team Matchmaking Warning
Goldrush now warns players when forming parties with teammates who have significantly higher levels. This notification helps players avoid unintentionally entering much more difficult matchmaking.
Arena Formation Sharing
Players can now inspect and share Goldrush Arena formations. Hidden team formations are no longer available, making it easier to study successful defensive setups.
New Tier 4 Evolutions
Besides Glowfly, two existing Tatari also receive new Tier 4 evolutions. The update adds:
- T4 Rock Beetle (Humbuck)
- T4 Lightning Bat (Z Blood)
Both receive new appearances alongside their upgraded evolution stage.
Balance Changes
Several balance adjustments are also planned. Some HP bars and classes have been updated, while one of the more noticeable changes reduces the durability of Paradon Zobo’s summoned Coffin. Many players struggled against the extremely tanky Coffin during story stages, so lowering its HP should make those encounters less frustrating.
Is Glowfly Worth Building?
Based on current testing, Glowfly appears to be strongest in defensive team compositions rather than aggressive strategies. Its constant shielding, Glow buffs, healing over time, and paralysis effects can make frontline units much harder to defeat, especially in Goldrush battles.
However, it doesn’t currently look like a must-have Tatari for every team. Players focused on offensive lineups may not find it as impactful, while defensive players could get much more value from its unique support kit. Since the update is still in testing, its skills may receive further balance changes before the official release.
The upcoming Clash of Critters update focuses on more than just adding a new Tatari. Alongside Glowfly, players can expect improved Goldrush rewards, better progression tools, new Tier 4 evolutions, balance adjustments, and several quality-of-life improvements that make the overall experience smoother.
Although Glowfly doesn’t currently seem like a game-changing damage dealer, its shield-focused gameplay and unique Glow mechanic could become a valuable option for defensive teams once the update officially launches.
