Choosing the best units in Anime Expeditions isn’t only about rarity or raw damage. A unit’s passive skills, active abilities, and unique mechanics often have a much bigger impact during difficult stages. Some characters specialize in crowd control, while others provide buffs, summon allies, or deal powerful area damage that can completely change the outcome of a match.

This guide covers every Secret, Exclusive, Mythic, and Legendary unit currently available in Anime Expeditions. You’ll find all passive abilities, active skills, equipment effects, cooldowns, and unlock requirements available in the release version of the game. Since Epic and Rare units don’t have unique abilities, they aren’t included here.

Best Units Based on Their Abilities

Several units stand out because of how much utility they bring to a team. Shadow (Divine) remains one of the strongest overall thanks to its battlefield rewind, magical damage buff, and permanent summons. 8th Sword (Berserk) is an excellent choice for long stages because its permanent damage scaling allows it to become significantly stronger over time.

Among the Mythic roster, Flame Emperor (Reincarnate) and Hollow (Blaze) work exceptionally well together by spreading and converting Burn effects for massive damage-over-time. Puppet (Telekinetic) is another valuable support unit thanks to its enemy marking and global rewind ability, while Reaper (Released) offers consistent scaling and excellent survivability through its clone mechanics.

For Legendary units, Forbidden Teacher and The Hero are reliable support picks that boost Magical and Physical teams respectively, making them worthwhile additions even in higher-level content.

Shadow (Divine)

Rarity: Secret

Element: Dark

Attack Type: Magical

Shadow (Divine) is one of the strongest support-DPS hybrids in Anime Expeditions. Instead of focusing solely on damage, this unit manipulates enemy positioning, summons permanent companions, and increases the damage output of magical allies.

Active Skills

Shadow Realm

  • Global Cooldown: 60 seconds
  • Converts the battlefield into the Shadow Realm.
  • Rewinds enemies within range by 50% of Shadow’s attack range.
  • Increases all Magical units’ damage by 25% for 30 seconds.
  • Each enemy can only be rewound twice.

Divine Spirit

  • Player Cooldown: 99,999 seconds
  • Summons an immortal Divine Spirit.
  • Shadow becomes stunned for 15 seconds.
  • Divine Spirit deals damage equal to Shadow’s base damage.
  • Cannot disappear, be defeated, or become stunned.

Passive Skills

Winged Spirit (Upgrade 3)

  • Summons a flying spirit around Shadow.
  • Attacks every five seconds.
  • Deals 75% of Shadow’s current damage.
  • Applies Stun.

Wolf Spirit (Upgrade 5)

  • Unlocks a Wolf Spirit companion.

8th Sword (Berserk)

8th Sword focuses on scaling throughout longer battles. Every enemy defeated permanently increases its strength while multiple passive effects trigger powerful follow-up attacks.

  • Instantly removes Stun.
  • Performs Thunderclap Cut for 100% damage.

Dismemberer’s Rush

  • Automatically attacks enemies below 10% HP.

The Nameless Demon

  • Summons Toys on every available path.
  • Toy HP equals 100% of Toy Maker’s damage.

Upgrade bonuses include:

  • Upgrade 2: +15% Toy movement speed.
  • Upgrade 4: Toys explode on death, dealing AoE damage equal to 10% of maximum HP.
  • Upgrade 6: Every fifth summon creates mutated Toys with 150% more HP.

When covering multiple paths, Toy health is divided evenly.


True Saint (Holy)

Rarity: Exclusive

Element: Light

Attack Type: Magical

True Saint rewards critical hits while also temporarily borrowing damage from nearby allies.

Passive Skill

Predictive Calculation

  • Normal attacks apply marks to up to five enemies.
  • Critical hits consume all marks.
  • Each consumed mark deals 10% current damage.
  • Every upgrade adds 2% Critical Chance.

Active Skill

Seize (Upgrade 11)

  • Player Cooldown: 200 seconds
  • Steals 20% damage from the three strongest nearby allies.

Cursed Student (True Love)

  • Every third attack copies the nearest ally’s attack.
