Anime Expeditions Secret Units Guide & How to Unlock!

Secret Units are among the rarest and most powerful characters available in Anime Expeditions. While building a strong team and choosing the right traits are essential for clearing difficult content, unlocking these exclusive units can give your roster a significant advantage in both raids and late-game progression.

At the moment, there are only two Secret Units in the game. Both are extremely difficult to obtain, requiring either incredible luck or a long-term grind through banners and raids. This guide covers every Secret Unit currently available, their abilities, and the methods you can use to unlock them.

What Are Secret Units in Anime Expeditions?

Secret Units are the highest rarity characters in Anime Expeditions. Unlike Mythic or Legendary units, Secret characters have unique abilities that aren’t available on other units, making them valuable additions for players aiming to tackle the game’s toughest challenges.

Since their drop rates are exceptionally low, most players will spend weeks—or even months—trying to unlock them. Fortunately, both Secret Units include pity systems, guaranteeing a reward after meeting specific requirements.

1. 8th Sword (Berserk)

Inspired by the legendary swordsman from Berserk, 8th Sword (Berserk) is a powerful melee damage dealer built around sustained combat and finishing weakened enemies. Its passive abilities become stronger the longer it remains on the battlefield, making it an excellent choice for Raid content.

How to Unlock 8th Sword:

There are two ways to unlock this Secret Unit.

  • The first method is through Spirit City Raid Act 3, where the unit has a 1% chance to drop after successfully completing the raid.
  • Players who aren’t lucky enough to receive the random drop can rely on the built-in pity system. Completing Spirit City Raid Act 3 a total of 35 times guarantees one copy of 8th Sword (Berserk) as a one-time reward.

Although farming the raid requires patience, the pity system ensures that every player can eventually obtain the unit through consistent grinding.

Abilities

  • Demonic Presence (Passive) Enemies within 40% of the unit’s attack range continuously take damage equal to 5% of the unit’s current damage every second. This passive constantly pressures nearby enemies even when the unit isn’t directly attacking.
  • Dismemberer’s Rush (Passive) Whenever an enemy inside its attack range falls below 10% HP, the skill Unrestrained Rage automatically deals full damage, allowing the unit to eliminate weakened enemies more efficiently.
  • The Nameless Demon (Passive) After defeating 25 enemies, the unit enters Berserk State for 15 seconds, gaining several powerful bonuses: 20% increased damage, 10% lower SPA (attacks faster), Every attack applies the Dismembered effect These buffs dramatically increase its damage output during extended waves.
  • Savage Rebound (Passive) This passive improves the unit’s survivability while enhancing several offensive abilities. Effects include: Instantly removes Stun whenever affected,  Thunderclap Cut deals 100% damage, Every follow-up attack inflicts Dismembered!

2. Shadow (Divine)

Shadow (Divine) is one of the rarest units currently available in Anime Expeditions. Rather than focusing purely on raw damage, this Secret Unit specializes in battlefield control, summons, and team-wide support effects. Its unique abilities allow it to buff allies while disrupting enemy movement, making it an excellent choice for difficult stages.

How to Get Shadow (Divine):

Unlike 8th Sword, Shadow (Divine) isn’t obtained through raids. Instead, players must summon it from the Standard Banner using Gems. Unfortunately, the odds are incredibly low.

  • Drop rate: 0.01%
  • Banner: Standard Banner
  • Currency: Gems

To compensate for the extremely rare drop chance, the game includes a pity system. Players who complete 10,000 summons will receive a guaranteed Shadow (Divine) as a one-time pity reward. Reaching pity requires approximately 500,000 Gems, making Shadow one of the most expensive and difficult units to unlock.

Abilities

  • Divine Spirit (Active) Activating this skill temporarily stuns Shadow for 15 seconds while summoning an invincible Divine Spirit. The summoned spirit: Cannot be defeated, Cannot be stunned, Cannot disappear prematurely, Deals 100% of Shadow’s damage, Although Shadow becomes inactive during the summon, the Divine Spirit continues attacking without interruption.
  • Shadow Realm (Active) Shadow transforms the battlefield into the Shadow Realm for 30 seconds. During this effect: All Magic units receive a 25% damage increase.Enemies within range are pushed backward through Shadow Rewind. Each enemy can only be affected by Shadow Rewind twice. This ability provides both offensive support and crowd control, making it especially useful during difficult waves.
  • Winged Spirit (Passive) Every eight seconds, a Winged Spirit circles around Shadow, dealing damage equal to 50% of the unit’s own attack power. The spirit patrols an area covering approximately half of Shadow’s attack range, helping eliminate nearby enemies.
  • Wolf Spirit (Passive) A Wolf Spirit automatically spawns at Shadow’s location. Unlike most summons, this companion levels independently, giving Shadow additional scaling throughout longer battles.

Which Secret Unit Is Better?

Each Secret Unit excels in different situations, so the better choice depends on your playstyle.

8th Sword (Berserk) is ideal if you want a powerful damage dealer capable of clearing raids and defeating enemies quickly. Its Berserk State and multiple offensive passives make it a reliable option for sustained combat.

Meanwhile, Shadow (Divine) offers a more strategic playstyle. Between its summons, Magic damage buff, crowd control abilities, and battlefield manipulation, it’s better suited for players who want to support their entire team while still dealing respectable damage.

Since both units are extremely difficult to obtain, most players will likely unlock whichever Secret Unit becomes available first.

Tips for Unlocking Secret Units Faster

Although luck plays a major role, there are several ways to improve your chances of obtaining Secret Units over time.

  • Farm Spirit City Raid Act 3 consistently to work toward the 35-clear pity for 8th Sword (Berserk).
  • Save Gems instead of spending them immediately so you can perform larger banner summoning sessions.
  • Track your total summons to know how close you are to the 10,000-summon pity for Shadow (Divine).
  • Participate in events and complete daily missions to maximize your Gem income.
  • Focus on upgrading your current team first, making raids and farming faster while progressing toward Secret Units.

Secret Units represent the pinnacle of character progression in Anime Expeditions. While only 8th Sword (Berserk) and Shadow (Divine) are currently available, both offer unique abilities that can dramatically improve your team’s performance. Whether you prefer farming raids for the guaranteed 35-run reward or saving hundreds of thousands of Gems for the Standard Banner pity, unlocking these characters is a long-term goal that rewards dedication.

As future updates introduce additional Secret Units, players can expect even more exclusive characters with powerful skills and challenging unlock requirements, making Secret Units one of the most exciting features to chase in Anime Expeditions.
