Everything New in Universal Tower Defense Z Update 4.25

Update 4.25 adds a wide range of content, including:

Universal Football Game Mode Explained

The biggest feature in Update 4.25 is the Universal Football game mode, which combines tower defense gameplay with football mechanics. Instead of placing random teams, you’ll first build a football formation based on your units’ Sub Tags. Each role automatically fits into a football position:

• DPS units become Strikers
• Support units become Midfielders
• Utility units become Defenders
• Specialists can play any position

Unlike traditional stages, there are no mid-game upgrades. Instead, you’ll continuously earn Cash that can be spent drafting stronger units during the match. Every drafted unit arrives fully upgraded and automatically inherits the best Relics and Traits you already own.

Football Phase Mechanics

Every few waves, the battle transitions into a Football Phase. During this phase:

• Your goalkeeper begins passing the ball through your formation.
• Team Chemistry affects pass accuracy.
• Shared tags between units create stronger passing lanes.
• Smart Card Stats determine interception chances.

If your striker receives the ball successfully, you’ll enter a Goal Scoring Quick Time Event where you must score against the opposing goalkeeper. However, if enemies steal possession first, you’ll instead play a Goalkeeper Save QTE to stop them from scoring. The first team to score five goals wins the match.

Universal Football Infinite Mode

Players looking for long-term farming can also jump into Infinite Mode.

Here:

• Your six equipped units automatically play against endless opponents.
• Every scoring phase can reward exclusive drops.
• Reward chances improve the longer you survive.

Exclusive rewards include:

• Blue Rose (Reborn)
• Ace Eater (Zombie)
• Evolution materials for both units

Blitz Football Game Mode

Update 4.25 also introduces Blitz Football.

This shorter mode lasts only seven waves and rewards:

• Blitz Pass XP
• Event currencies

Completing the Blitz Pass unlocks two exclusive units:

• Shiro (Complete)

Devils Contract (Sold Soul)

Fusion:

Players can also complete the Trial Quest using the unevolved version of The Egoist.

Polar Opposites (Devour)

Fusion:

• The Egoist (Rebel)
• King Footballer (Devour)

The King and His Jester

Fusion:

• Ace Eater (Zombie)
• King Footballer (Devour)

After dealing enough damage, fused units either separate or sell themselves depending on the reaction.

New Synchro Clash

Only one new Synchro Clash arrives in Update 4.25.

Cross-Fire Kick

Required units:

• Axel (Striker)
• Shiro (Complete)

Sports Ball System

Sports and Locked units now interact through an entirely new Ball Possession system. Here’s how it works:

• The first Locked unit placed starts with possession.
• The ball automatically passes every 10 seconds.
• Passing activates temporary buffs.

Three pass types exist.

Tight Pass

• -15% SPA
• +10% Range

Cross

• +10% Damage
• -5% SPA

One-Two

• Both participating units receive:
  • -10% SPA

The system encourages placing Sports-tag units close together to maximize buff uptime.

New Tags

Update 4.25 introduces two new tags:

• Sports
• Locked

These tags are especially important inside Universal Football mode and the new Ball Possession system.

Adaptation Trial

The Adaptation Trial offers another progression path focused on football content. To complete it, players must:

• Play Universal Football
• Find Hidden Puzzle Pieces
• Complete Chemical Reactions

Rewards include a Footballer unit and its evolution item.

New Accessories

Eight exclusive accessories are now available. They include:

Many of these accessories provide enormous damage boosts ranging from +500% up to +1500%, alongside new passive abilities, cooldown reductions, crowd control effects, and team buffs. Several accessories are purchased through the Ragnarok Shop, while others drop from Legend Stages.

Five new cosmetic skins arrive with Update 4.25. They include:
