DragonSword: Awakening Tier List (2026): Best Characters to Unlock First
Choosing your first heroes in DragonSword: Awakening is more important than it may seem. Unlike many RPGs, the game doesn’t use a traditional gacha system. Instead, you’ll unlock new characters by spending Fate’s Invitation Tickets, a limited resource earned through gameplay.
Since these tickets aren’t easy to get, it’s worth knowing which heroes provide the most value before using them. This tier list ranks every playable character based on their overall performance in story content, World Boss fights, Raids, and late-game activities.

What Do the Tier Rankings Mean?
Before choosing a hero, it’s helpful to understand what each tier represents.
- S Tier – The strongest heroes in the current version of the game. They deal high damage, offer useful crowd control, and fit into almost any team.
- A Tier – Excellent characters that perform well in most content but may require certain teammates or strategies to reach their full potential.
- B Tier – Reliable heroes that can clear content without major issues, although they are generally less flexible than higher-ranked characters.
- C Tier – Situational heroes that work in specific teams but are usually outperformed by other options.
S Tier Characters
These heroes are considered the best investments for your Fate’s Invitation Tickets.
Calcion
Calcion is one of the strongest damage dealers thanks to his Burn effects and powerful combo attacks. He can launch enemies into the air, pull groups together, and create explosive area damage, making him useful against both bosses and large groups of enemies.
Seris
Seris specializes in freezing enemies and controlling the battlefield. She can apply Cold, Airborne, and Freeze effects while dealing impressive burst damage by shattering frozen targets. Her crowd control makes her valuable in nearly every team.
Zion
Zion offers a great balance between support and damage. He spreads Electric Shock, gathers enemies together for combo attacks, and provides useful buffs for the entire team. His versatility makes him one of the safest picks in the game.
Dana
Dana combines offense and defense through her companion, Chaco. She generates Frost Energy for stronger attacks while providing shields, Cold debuffs, and Knockdown effects. She’s especially useful during difficult endgame battles.
Charlotte
Charlotte focuses on fast assassination-style gameplay. She uses stealth, creates clones, and quickly applies Poison while knocking enemies down. Her high mobility makes her very effective against elite monsters and bosses.
Ornette
Ornette excels at crowd control by rapidly freezing enemies over a large area. She also extends combo chains through her Signal Skills while maintaining strong overall damage output, especially when paired with Frost-focused teammates.
A Tier Characters
These heroes are powerful choices but usually perform best with proper team setups.
Kalien
Kalien uses fox spirits to continuously apply Burn throughout battle. While her area damage is impressive, some attacks require good positioning, making her less effective against fast-moving enemies.
Othello
Othello quickly builds Cold stacks and uses Ice Spears to slow enemies before dealing heavy follow-up damage. He performs best once his setup is complete.
Johnny
Johnny is a fast melee fighter that stacks Poison with dual blades. Once several Poison effects are active, his damage increases significantly, making him great for aggressive players.
Aria
Aria weakens enemy Lightning resistance while constantly applying Shock. She works well in teams that can consistently knock enemies down.
Theresia
Theresia specializes in Shock damage while removing enemy buffs. She shines as a combo finisher but relies on teammates to create Knockdown opportunities.
Astria
Astria is a ranged damage dealer with strong burst attacks. Her explosive skills can clear groups of enemies, although her effectiveness drops against targets that stay too far away.
Castella
Castella keeps enemies airborne, making it easier for teammates to continue combo attacks. She is an excellent support DPS but struggles more against Pyro and Light-element enemies.
Lute
Lute combines sword attacks with Freeze effects to control enemies. He works especially well alongside Frost-focused heroes like Seris.
B Tier Characters
These heroes are still useful but tend to be more specialized.
Alex
Alex delivers powerful melee attacks that deal high posture damage and knock enemies down. His slower attack speed makes him less reliable against quick opponents.
Reina
Reina focuses on Freeze effects and battlefield control instead of raw damage. She creates opportunities for teammates but isn’t a primary damage dealer.
Roxy
Roxy applies Bleed quickly and ignores part of an enemy’s defense. Her strongest attacks require multiple Bleed stacks, so longer fights suit her best.
Tarte
Tarte is mainly a support hero. She heals teammates, removes crowd-control effects, and can occasionally stun enemies. However, her personal damage is relatively low.
C Tier Character
Eileen
Eileen mainly boosts the team’s Attack Power, making her useful as a support character. However, she contributes very little damage herself and lacks the combo potential offered by higher-tier heroes.
How to Unlock New Characters
DragonSword: Awakening doesn’t rely on random summons.
Instead, you’ll unlock heroes using Fate’s Invitation Tickets, a special item earned through gameplay.
Once you have a ticket:
- Open the Exchange menu.
- Select the hero you want.
- Spend one Fate’s Invitation Ticket.
- The character becomes permanently available.
This system lets you choose exactly which hero to recruit instead of depending on luck.
How to Get Fate’s Invitation Tickets
Fate’s Invitation Tickets are earned by progressing through the game and completing various activities.
Since they’re limited, it’s usually best to save them until you’ve decided which heroes fit your preferred team.
Keep in mind that some characters are unlocked naturally by progressing through the main story, so you won’t need to spend tickets on every hero.
Which Characters Should You Unlock First?
If you’re looking for the best value, these heroes are excellent first choices:
- Calcion for high burst damage.
- Seris for crowd control and Freeze combos.
- Zion for balanced support and offense.
- Dana for survivability and late-game content.
- Charlotte for fast boss fights.
- Ornette for powerful Frost-based teams.
These heroes remain effective across nearly every game mode and are excellent long-term investments.
Because Fate’s Invitation Tickets are limited, choosing the right heroes early can make progression much smoother. S Tier characters offer the strongest combination of damage, utility, and flexibility, making them the safest picks for most players.
That said, team synergy still plays an important role in DragonSword: Awakening. Some A Tier heroes can perform just as well when paired with the right teammates, so don’t be afraid to build around your preferred playstyle as you unlock more characters.
