Mutated pets are some of the most valuable companions you can collect in Build a Base and Steal. Besides making your collection look more impressive, these special pets generate significantly more Money Per Second (MPS), allowing you to earn cash much faster. They’re also important if you’re working toward completing the Pet Index, which rewards permanent Luck and Cash bonuses. This guide covers every way to obtain mutated pets, explains each mutation currently available, and helps you decide which ones are worth keeping in your base.
How to Get Mutated Pets in Build a Base and Steal
There are currently three different methods for obtaining mutated pets. Each method offers different mutations, so understanding how they work will make collecting much easier.
Use the Pet Roll
The simplest way to obtain a mutated pet is through the Pet Roll system. Every roll has a chance of producing a pet with the Golden mutation.
At the moment, the Pet Roll is the only source of Golden pets. It cannot generate any of the other mutation types, so if you’re specifically hunting Cosmic, Inferno, or Admin pets, you’ll need to rely on other methods.
If you spend a lot of time rolling for new pets, you’ll naturally build up a collection of Golden variants over time.
Participate in Limited-Time Events
Special in-game events are another major source of mutated pets. During these events, certain mutations can be applied to pets already inside your base or earned through event-specific activities. The two main mutation events are:
- Cosmic Event – Pets in your base have a chance to receive the Cosmic mutation.
- Volcano Event – Pets can gain the Inferno mutation, and players may also discover naturally mutated Inferno pets inside the Volcano itself.
Since events only appear periodically, it’s worth joining whenever they’re active if you’re trying to expand your mutation collection.
Join Admin Abuse Events
The rarest mutation currently available is the Admin mutation. Unlike other mutations, Admin pets can only be obtained during Admin Abuse Events hosted by the game’s developers. These events usually take place shortly before major updates, although smaller surprise Admin Abuse sessions can also happen without much notice. Because these events are limited-time, many players keep an eye on the game’s official Discord announcements so they know exactly when an Admin Abuse begins.
Every Pet Mutation in Build a Base and Steal
As of the Build Mode Update, there are four different mutations available. Each mutation increases both the pet’s earning rate and its sale value, making mutated pets significantly more valuable than their normal versions.
Golden
Golden is the most common mutation and is obtained exclusively through the Pet Roll system.
Effects
- 1.5x Money Per Second
- 1.5x Sale Value
Golden pets are a great starting point for boosting your passive income, especially during the early stages of progression.
Cosmic
The Cosmic mutation is available through Cosmic Events and provides a larger bonus than Golden pets.
Effects
- 2x Money Per Second
- 2x Sale Value
Because of its balanced boost, Cosmic is an excellent mutation for players looking to increase their overall earnings without waiting for rarer event rewards.
Inferno
Inferno pets become available during Volcano Events and offer one of the highest income multipliers currently obtainable through regular gameplay.
Effects
- 3x Money Per Second
- 3x Sale Value
If you want to maximize your passive cash generation, Inferno pets are well worth collecting whenever the Volcano Event appears.
Admin
Admin is currently the strongest mutation in Build a Base and Steal.
Effects
- 4x Money Per Second
- 4x Sale Value
Since Admin pets are exclusive to Admin Abuse Events, they’re among the rarest pets in the game. If you have the opportunity to obtain one, it’s usually worth keeping instead of selling.
Which Mutated Pets Should You Keep?
Not every mutated pet needs to be sold immediately. In most cases, keeping stronger mutations inside your base will generate much more money over time than selling them for a quick payout.
A good progression path is:
- Keep Golden pets early to improve your passive income.
- Replace them with Cosmic pets whenever possible.
- Upgrade your collection with Inferno pets during Volcano Events.
- Always prioritize Admin pets because they provide the highest earning multiplier currently available.
Building a base filled with higher-tier mutations will dramatically increase your Money Per Second and make future progression much faster.
Why Mutated Pets Matter
Mutated pets aren’t only useful because they earn more money. Every new pet you collect also contributes toward completing the Pet Index, which unlocks permanent account-wide rewards such as additional Luck and Cash bonuses.
As your Index grows, future pet hunting becomes easier, creating a progression loop where stronger mutations help you earn more money while permanent boosts improve your chances of expanding your collection even further.
Mutated pets are one of the best long-term investments in Build a Base and Steal. Whether you’re rolling for Golden pets, participating in Cosmic and Volcano Events, or waiting for the next Admin Abuse Event, every mutation offers a significant increase to both passive income and resale value.
If your goal is to maximize Money Per Second and complete the Pet Index as efficiently as possible, prioritize collecting stronger mutations whenever they’re available. Over time, replacing ordinary pets with Golden, Cosmic, Inferno, and eventually Admin variants will greatly improve your earnings and overall progression.
