Waxwell, also known as Maxwell the Candle, is one of the playable Toons in Dandy’s World. With his purple candle design, dripping wax that looks like hair, white wick, and large flame, Waxwell has a unique appearance compared with many of the other Toons in the game. However, getting Waxwell requires more than simply spending Ichor or finding him in the character selection menu. Players need to complete specific progression requirements before they can unlock him. Waxwell’s Ability
Waxwell’s active ability is called Ignite. When activated, Waxwell lights his flame and removes his Tired debuff for 10 seconds. While Ignite is active, Waxwell leaves a trail behind him as he moves around the floor. Other Toons who come into contact with this trail will receive the Ignited buff.
The Ignited buff allows the affected Toon’s ability cooldown to recover twice as fast for 5 seconds. This can be useful during situations where your team needs to use their abilities more frequently, especially when trying to escape dangerous situations or complete objectives.
There are a few limitations to keep in mind. The effect does not apply to Waxwell himself, and the Ignited buff cannot stack. Waxwell’s Ignite ability also has a 60-second cooldown, so you need to use it carefully rather than activating it whenever it is available.
Waxwell Unlock Requirements
There are several requirements that must be completed before you can obtain Waxwell. Make sure you meet all of them before trying to unlock the Toon. The requirements are:
- Reach 50% Research on Twisted Waxwell.
- Complete 3 Mastery Quests on Goop.
- Have 3,500 Ichor.
These requirements mean that you will need to spend some time playing through the game and progressing your Research and Mastery before Waxwell becomes available.
How to Get 50% Research on Twisted Waxwell
The first requirement is reaching 50% Research on Twisted Waxwell. Twisted Waxwell is the Twisted version of Waxwell and was introduced as part of the update that added the character.
Twisted Waxwell can appear on floors during your runs, so you will need to play through the game and keep an eye out for him. Once you encounter Twisted Waxwell, interacting with the mechanics that contribute to his Research will help increase your progress.
You do not need to reach 100% Research for this requirement. Only 50% Research on Twisted Waxwell is needed, which means you can focus on reaching the required amount rather than completely finishing his Research.
Complete 3 Goop Mastery Quests
The second major requirement is connected to Goop. You need to complete three Mastery Quests for Goop before you can unlock Waxwell.
If you have not started Goop’s Mastery yet, check the available Mastery objectives and work through them during your regular runs. Completing three of the required quests is enough for Waxwell’s unlock requirement.
It is a good idea to work on this requirement alongside your other progression instead of treating it as a separate task. That way, you can make progress toward Goop’s Mastery while also collecting resources and looking for Twisted Waxwell.
Get 3,500 Ichor
The final requirement is having 3,500 Ichor. Ichor is an important resource in Dandy’s World, so you may need to complete multiple runs if you do not already have enough saved.
Try to avoid spending your Ichor unnecessarily while working toward Waxwell. Once you have the required 3,500 Ichor, you can use it as part of the character unlock process after completing the other requirements.
If you are still short on Ichor, continue playing runs and collecting the resources available to you until you reach the required amount.
Is Waxwell Worth Getting?
Waxwell can be a useful support-oriented Toon because his Ignite ability provides a cooldown recovery effect to other Toons. The ability can help teammates get access to their skills faster, while Waxwell’s own Tired debuff is removed temporarily when Ignite is activated.
His trail also gives the ability a team-based function. Instead of simply benefiting himself, Waxwell can create an area that other Toons can use to receive the Ignited buff.
However, good timing is important because Ignite has a 60-second cooldown and the buff only lasts for 5 seconds. Players should try to activate it when their teammates are nearby and can actually benefit from the trail.
