Mountains are one of the main parts of Mine a Mountain. The mountain you are mining does not stay forever. Every hour, the current mountain is replaced with a new one, and the next mountain is selected randomly. This system means every mountain has a different shape, height, rarity, terrain, and resource veins. When the mountain changes, the available crystal deposits are also reset, giving players a fresh area to explore and mine.

How the Mountain System Works

A new mountain is generated every hour. The game uses rarity-based RNG to decide which mountain appears next, so some mountains are much harder to find than others. Common mountains have higher chances of appearing, while Mythic mountains have some of the lowest chances. Because of this, finding a rare or Mythic mountain can be much less frequent.

Each mountain also has its own terrain and resource veins. The height shown for each mountain represents its maximum possible peak. The mountain does not always generate at exactly that maximum height.

Common Mountains

Common mountains are among the easiest types to encounter because they have relatively high appearance chances.

  • Stepped Mesa — 2,686m — 13.5%
  • Dunesea — 3,635m — 6%
  • Sprawling Massif — 3,477m — 11.5%
  • Badlands Pinnacles — 1,707m — 10.6%

Stepped Mesa has the highest chance among the Common mountains at 13.5%. Badlands Pinnacles has the lowest maximum height in this group at 1,707 meters.

Uncommon Mountains

Uncommon mountains are less common than the first group and can also have much taller peaks.

  • Active Volcano — 6,953m — 10.6%
  • Archgate — 4,425m — 5%
  • Fungal Rise — 3,161m — 5%
  • Karst Spire — 6,321m — 9.6%
  • Twin Peaks — 3,556m — 9.6%

Active Volcano stands out with a maximum height of 6,953 meters and a 10.6% chance to appear.

Rare Mountains

Rare mountains have lower RNG chances and include several different terrain designs.

  • Frosthorn — 4,030m — 9.6%
  • Auroral Shelf — 3,319m — 4.5%
  • Bonewhite — 3,635m — 8.7%
  • Coilhorn — 6,479m — 4.5%
  • Dolomite Spires — 4,267m — 8.7%

Coilhorn has the highest maximum peak in this rarity group at 6,479 meters, while Auroral Shelf has the lowest listed chance at 4.5%.

Epic Mountains

Epic mountains are harder to encounter and include some of the taller mountain designs in the game.

  • Obsidian Crag — 4,646m — 5.8%
  • Emberveil Spire — 6,005m — 2.5%
  • The Hollow Crown — 6,637m — 2.5%
  • Lone Spire — 4,978m — 4.8%
  • Shatterpeak — 5,531m — 2.5%
  • Thornspire — 6,163m — 4.8%

Obsidian Crag has the highest listed chance at 5.8%, while several Epic mountains have only a 2.5% chance of appearing.

Legendary Mountains

Legendary mountains are much less common and can offer some unusual terrain layouts.

  • Crystal Peak — 5,215m — 3.8%
  • Sinkhole Flats — 1,644m — 2%
  • The Maw — 7,112m — 3.8%
  • Tuskrows — 4,741m — 2%

The Maw is the tallest Legendary mountain, reaching a maximum height of 7,112 meters. Sinkhole Flats is much shorter, with a listed peak of 1,644 meters.

Mythic Mountains

Mythic mountains are among the rarest mountains in Mine a Mountain. There are currently three listed Mythic mountains.

  • Everest — 8,850m — 1.9%
  • K2 — 31,131m — 1.9%
  • Rimefire — 8,217m — 1%

K2 is the biggest mountain on the list by a huge margin, with a listed maximum peak of 31,131 meters. Rimefire has the lowest appearance chance among all listed mountains at just 1%.

What Happens When the Mountain Changes?

When the hourly mountain rotation happens, the current mountain is replaced by a newly selected mountain. The change also refreshes the available crystal deposits.

This gives players a reason to keep checking the mountain after each rotation. A new mountain can provide a completely different layout, allowing players to explore fresh terrain and search for new resource veins.

If you are looking for a particular mountain, however, you will need to rely on RNG because the game does not let you directly choose which mountain appears.

What Is the Rarest Mountain?

Based on the listed chances, Rimefire is currently the rarest mountain, with only a 1% chance of appearing. The other Mythic mountains, Everest and K2, each have a 1.9% chance. This makes Rimefire especially difficult to encounter during the hourly mountain rotation. K2 is also notable because its maximum listed height of 31,131 meters makes it the tallest mountain in the current list.

The mountain system in Mine a Mountain is built around hourly RNG. Every hour, a new mountain is selected based on its rarity and appearance chance, while crystal deposits are reset so players can explore fresh terrain.

There are currently mountains ranging from Common to Mythic, with different heights, shapes, terrain, and resource veins. Common mountains are much easier to encounter, while Mythic mountains such as Everest, K2, and Rimefire are significantly harder to find.

If you are hunting for a specific mountain, keep checking each hourly rotation. You may need plenty of luck, especially when trying to find one of the mountains with a 1% to 2% appearance chance.
