The Prodigy Secret is one of the new free units players can unlock in Anime Expeditions, but getting it requires more than simply completing a short quest. The Scholar’s Trial has eight different requirements, including an East Town clear, a Difficulty 3 boss node, Mechanical Scrap farming, Follow-Up Attacks, a tournament, and a special preset unit trial.
The good news is that you can complete several requirements at the same time if you plan your farming correctly. This guide explains the fastest order to finish the Prodigy quest and how to beat the difficult Prodigy’s Trial.
Where to Start the Prodigy Quest
To begin the Prodigy Secret quest, enter any map from the new East Town area. After spawning, walk toward the left side of the map and continue in the direction of the basketball court.
You will find the Prodigy quest NPC in this area. Talk to the NPC and accept the Scholar’s Trial. After accepting it, you can open the Quests menu and find Scholar’s Trial under the Trial section to check your current progress.
There are eight requirements that need to be completed before you can claim the Prodigy Secret.
All Prodigy Secret Requirements
The Scholar’s Trial requires you to complete the following objectives:
- Complete East Town one time.
- Complete Prodigy’s Trial.
- Clear a Boss Node on East Town Difficulty 3.
- Collect 350 Mechanical Scrap.
- Evolve one unit.
- Clear 150 waves with Bio Insect Final Form.
- Participate in one Tournament.
- Clear 150 waves with Carrot Unleashed.
The fastest approach is to avoid treating these as eight separate tasks. Bio Insect and Carrot can be used together while completing other objectives, allowing their wave counters to progress while you farm Mechanical Scrap, complete stages, and work through other requirements.
Get Bio Insect and Carrot First
Your first priority should be obtaining Bio Insect and Carrot from the new banner. You need to evolve them into Bio Insect Final Form and Carrot Unleashed because both evolved units are required for the wave objectives.
Evolving either one also satisfies the separate requirement to evolve one unit. This means you can complete three objectives through the same process: evolving a unit, progressing the Bio Insect wave counter, and progressing the Carrot wave counter.
Once both are evolved, place them on the same team. You need to complete 150 waves with each unit, but you do not have to complete those counters separately.
How to Complete 150 Waves With Bio Insect and Carrot
Equip Bio Insect Final Form and Carrot Unleashed on the same team and use them during your normal gameplay. Their respective counters will continue increasing as long as they are part of the team during completed waves.
Infinite mode is a useful option because you can continue playing through large numbers of waves while making progress toward both objectives.
You can also keep the two units equipped while completing other requirements. This is the most important time-saving method for the entire quest because you do not want to spend extra runs completing 150 waves for each unit separately.
Complete East Town
Another requirement is completing East Town one time. This means you need to finish all of the available story acts in the East Town map.
Work through every available act until the story section is cleared. Keep Bio Insect Final Form and Carrot Unleashed on your team during these runs whenever possible so their 150-wave requirements continue progressing.
This can help reduce the amount of additional farming needed after the East Town requirement is finished.
Clear an East Town Difficulty 3 Boss Node
The next requirement asks you to defeat a Boss Node in East Town on Difficulty 3.
Enter the East Town content and make sure the difficulty is specifically set to Difficulty 3. Choose a route that contains a Boss Node and defeat the boss at the end.
Do not complete the Boss Node on an easier difficulty and expect it to count. The requirement specifically calls for Difficulty 3, so double-check the selected difficulty before starting the run.
Collect 350 Mechanical Scrap
Mechanical Scrap can be collected through the New West City Expedition. You need a total of 350 Mechanical Scrap for the Scholar’s Trial.
Before entering the Expedition, look at the available routes and choose one that contains as many material rewards as possible. This gives you a better chance of collecting the required amount without wasting runs on routes with poor material rewards.
Keep Bio Insect Final Form and Carrot Unleashed on your team during these runs if possible. Their wave counters can continue progressing while you work toward the 350 Mechanical Scrap requirement.
Participate in a Tournament
The Tournament requirement is much easier than some of the other objectives. You only need to participate in one Tournament.
You do not need to win or achieve a specific placement. Simply entering and taking part in a Tournament is enough to satisfy this part of the Scholar’s Trial.
Because it is a simple requirement, you can leave this until a Tournament becomes available instead of changing your entire farming plan around it.
How to Beat Prodigy’s Trial
Prodigy’s Trial is likely to be the hardest part of the quest because you cannot use your normal team. Instead, the game gives you a preset lineup. The available units are:
- Prodigy Rage
- The Drink Juice Box
- String Demon Awakened
- Summoner Sorcerer Grade One
- The Hero
- Stone Alchemist
Because you are forced to use these units, the important part is understanding the upgrade order and how to manage your starting economy.
Start With Stone Alchemist
At the beginning of Prodigy’s Trial, focus on placing your Stone Alchemist farm units. Do not spend all of your starting money immediately on damage units.
You can place one Summoner Sorcerer to handle the early enemies. This should provide enough control while your economy develops.
Allow the enemies to move farther into the map rather than trying to destroy everything immediately. Once the enemies reach around the middle of the path, you should have more money available from your farms.
This extra economy makes it much easier to build the rest of your team later in the trial.
Upgrade The Hero First
The Hero should be one of your highest upgrade priorities. Its upgrades provide a major damage boost to the rest of your team, making it more valuable to improve early than simply spending all of your money on Prodigy or The Drink.
Build your economy first, then invest in The Hero and use its buffs to improve the damage output of your main units.
After improving the first Hero, place your additional copies of The Hero, String Demon, and Summoner Sorcerer before filling out the rest of your main damage setup.
Target Shielded Enemies
Targeting is extremely important during the Prodigy Trial because the boss arrives with 50 shields.
Change the targeting of your supporting units to Shielded. The Hero, String Demon, and Summoner Sorcerer can then focus on dealing with the shields while Prodigy and your other damage units concentrate on the boss itself.
If you ignore the shield mechanic, your damage dealers may struggle to deal meaningful damage to the boss. Setting up specific shield-focused units makes the fight much more manageable.
Once the shield setup is working, continue placing and upgrading your main damage units.
Use Prodigy’s Active Skill
Do not forget about Prodigy’s active ability. It is one of the strongest tools available during the preset trial and can make difficult waves significantly easier.
You can turn on Auto Skill if you do not want to manage the ability manually. Alternatively, save the skill for a dangerous wave or the final boss if you prefer to control exactly when it is activated.
Using the ability at the right time can provide the extra damage needed to get through the final stages of the trial.
How to Claim the Prodigy Secret
Once all eight Scholar’s Trial requirements are complete, return to the Prodigy NPC at the basketball court area in East Town.
Interact with the NPC and claim your reward. The Prodigy Secret will be given to you completely free after completing the full quest.
After obtaining the unit, lock it immediately. This prevents you from accidentally selling or scrapping the Prodigy Secret while managing your other units.
How to Get Mechanical Wings
The same Prodigy NPC also offers another quest called Perfection’s Trial. Completing this quest gives you Prodigy’s special Mechanical Wings equipment and 15 Equipment Rerolls.
The main requirement is completing Bio Insect’s special unit trial. Open Perfection’s Trial and select Enter Unit Trial to begin.
This trial has two major modifiers that you need to understand before starting.
Bio Insect Trial: Stunner Modifier
The first modifier is Stunner. Every 15 seconds, it stuns the three nearest units for five seconds.
This can cause serious problems if most of your damage comes from only a few units. If all of your important attackers are repeatedly stunned, your damage output can drop at the worst possible time.
The easiest way to deal with Stunner is to spread your damage units around the map. Use more than three reliable attackers so that losing three units to a stun does not completely stop your damage.
Having several separate damage sources allows the rest of your team to continue attacking while the nearest three units are disabled.
Bio Insect Trial: Splitter Modifier
The second modifier is Splitter. When an enemy with this modifier is defeated, it divides into three smaller enemies.
Each new enemy has 33% of the original enemy’s health, which can quickly create large groups of targets.
Because of this, Area of Effect damage is very useful during the trial. Use units capable of hitting multiple enemies at once and consider bringing crowd control, such as Summoner Sorcerer, to keep groups inside your attack range.
You should also build your economy early and spread your damage units across the path rather than putting everything in one location.
Claim the Mechanical Wings Reward
After completing Bio Insect’s special trial, return to Perfection’s Trial and claim your rewards.
You will receive:
- Mechanical Wings equipment for Prodigy.
- 15 Equipment Rerolls.
This gives you another reason to complete the additional quest after obtaining the Prodigy Secret.
Fastest Prodigy Secret Quest Order
For the most efficient route, start by entering East Town and talking to the Prodigy NPC near the basketball court.
Then follow this order:
- Obtain Bio Insect and Carrot from the new banner.
- Evolve Bio Insect into Bio Insect Final Form.
- Evolve Carrot into Carrot Unleashed.
- Equip both evolved units on the same team.
- Start working toward 150 waves with each unit.
- Complete all East Town story acts.
- Clear an East Town Difficulty 3 Boss Node.
- Farm 350 Mechanical Scrap through New West City Expedition.
- Participate in one Tournament.
- Complete Prodigy’s preset Unit Trial.
- Return to the Prodigy NPC and claim the Secret Prodigy.
- Lock Prodigy immediately after obtaining it.
- Complete Bio Insect’s special trial through Perfection’s Trial.
- Claim Mechanical Wings and 15 Equipment Rerolls.
The key is to keep Bio Insect Final Form and Carrot Unleashed on your team whenever possible. Their 150-wave requirements can progress while you are completing several of the other objectives, saving you from having to repeat additional runs.
The Prodigy Secret may be free, but the Scholar’s Trial still requires a decent amount of work. The fastest method is to combine objectives instead of completing each one individually. Getting Bio Insect and Carrot early, evolving both, and keeping them on the same team is especially useful because both 150-wave requirements can progress together.
The preset Prodigy Trial is the biggest challenge, but a strong economy, early Stone Alchemist farms, a priority on The Hero, and proper Shielded targeting can make the fight much easier. Once all eight requirements are finished, return to the Prodigy NPC to claim the Secret Prodigy. You can then continue with Perfection’s Trial to unlock Mechanical Wings and 15 Equipment Rerolls.
