Avoiding The Locust is one of the most important parts of escaping House of The Locust. You cannot simply run around the house without a plan, because The Locust can quickly catch players who make too much noise or stay in the wrong area for too long. The best way to survive is to learn his movement, listen for his sounds, and always know where you can run if he gets close. Since the game is still in PRE-ALPHA, The Locust’s AI and movement can change in future updates. Some hiding spots or escape methods may work differently later.

Listen for The Locust

The easiest way to know when The Locust is nearby is to listen. His footsteps, breathing, and other sounds can give you a warning before you actually see him. If the sounds suddenly become louder, stop searching cabinets or moving objective items and prepare to leave the area.

When the sounds start getting quieter, it usually means The Locust is moving away. This gives you a good chance to continue your objective. Don’t spend too long searching one location if you can hear him getting closer.

Break Line of Sight

If The Locust sees you, your first goal should be creating distance. Run away from him and try to turn into another room or corridor. Once you have enough distance, use corners and narrow areas to break his line of sight.

A useful movement option is Shift + C, which allows you to slide through narrow passages. This can help you get away when The Locust is chasing you. The important thing is to avoid running directly into another part of the house without checking where you’re going.

Learn the Important Rooms

You don’t need to memorize the entire house. Instead, remember the locations of the areas that matter most:

• Colored cube puzzle room
• Green EXIT door
• Cabinet areas
• Narrow passages
• Rooms where The Locust commonly walks
• Safe corners and openings

Knowing these landmarks makes escaping much easier because you can quickly decide where to go when The Locust starts chasing you.

Don’t Carry Cubes While The Locust Is Nearby

The colored cubes are required for the main puzzle, but moving them can make you vulnerable. You have to push the cubes instead of simply picking them up and carrying them. This means your movement is more limited while you’re working on the puzzle. If The Locust is nearby, don’t continue pushing the cube just because you’re close to the destination. Instead:

• Stop pushing the cube.
• Move away from the area.
• Wait for The Locust to leave.
• Return to the cube.
• Continue pushing it.

Your progress can be much easier to manage when you don’t rush this part.

Use the House Layout to Your Advantage

Corners and narrow passages are useful when The Locust is chasing you. If you see him coming from one direction, don’t automatically run in a straight line. Look for another room or passage that can give you more space.

Try to keep at least one escape route in mind whenever you’re working on an objective. This is especially important when you’re searching cabinets because interacting with them can keep your attention in one place. If The Locust suddenly appears, you may not have enough time to react.

Be Careful When Getting the Keycard

The Keycard is probably the riskiest objective in House of The Locust because you need to approach the monster. Before going for the Keycard, decide where you will run. A safer method is:

• Wait for The Locust to turn away.
• Approach from behind.
• Get close enough to interact with the Keycard.
• Take the Keycard.
• Immediately move toward your escape route.

Don’t stop to look around after picking it up. If you already know which doorway or corridor you’re going to use, the entire process becomes much safer.

Use Corners and Openings

Depending on The Locust’s position, you may be able to use corners, gaps, or narrow openings to approach him without walking directly into his patrol path. This can make the Keycard easier to obtain, but don’t depend on one specific spot. The Locust can move while you’re waiting, especially if the AI changes in a future version of the game. Always be ready to back away if he turns toward you.

Playing With Friends

Playing with other players can make avoiding The Locust much easier. You can split up the objectives instead of having everyone search the same area.

• One player searches cabinets.
• One player looks for the remaining cubes.
• One player watches The Locust.
• Another player can prepare the route toward the EXIT.

Communication is important. If someone sees The Locust near a certain room, tell everyone else before they enter that area. If a player gets caught while carrying an important item, check where they died. Some objective items can be dropped and recovered by another player.

The easiest way to avoid The Locust is to stop treating the game like a normal chase. You don’t need to constantly run. Most of the time, you can safely complete objectives by waiting for the right moment and moving when The Locust is far away. The most dangerous part is usually getting the Keycard, so make sure you already know your escape route before approaching The Locust.

Once you have the WireCutter, Key, and Keycard, head straight for the green EXIT door and finish the escape. As House of The Locust receives more updates, The Locust’s AI and patrol behavior may change, so some strategies may need to be adjusted in future versions.
