What Do Bits Do?
Bits are one of the main ways to increase your cash boost in TBOD^2. Every 1 Bit provides a 10% cash boost. This means collecting more Bits will increase the amount of money you can earn while running your tycoon.
Bits are not spent like normal cash. Instead, they work as a bonus that improves your ability to generate money. This makes them especially useful once upgrades become more expensive and you need larger amounts of cash.
For example, having 10 Bits gives you a 100% cash boost. This is why finding the Merchant should be an important part of your progression, especially when you are trying to build your tycoon quickly.
How to Get Essence
Another important resource is Essence. Unlike Bits, Essence is mainly obtained through the rebirth system and the Obelisk. Each Essence provides a 0.4% cash boost.
To get Essence, you need to perform a rebirth after meeting the required conditions. The Obelisk is the main location used for this process. Once your tycoon has progressed far enough and you meet the rebirth requirement, head to the Obelisk and complete the rebirth.
Essence may provide a smaller bonus than Bits, but the bonus can continue to grow as you perform more rebirths. Over time, having more Essence helps make each new progression cycle faster.

Rebirth is an important part of progressing in TBOD^2. You cannot rebirth immediately, as you first need to reach the required condition. Once you qualify, visit the Obelisk to start the rebirth process.
Rebirthing resets part of your current tycoon progress in exchange for Essence. Although you will need to rebuild your tycoon afterward, the bonus from Essence helps you generate cash faster during the next run.

Weather and Events

There are also rare events that can happen during certain conditions. Two notable events are Blood Moon and Eclipse.
The Blood Moon has around a 1 in 100 chance of happening each night, which is approximately a 1% chance. When a Blood Moon appears, a Merchant is guaranteed to spawn and receives a buff to the cards being offered. This makes Blood Moon one of the best opportunities to search for the Merchant and collect Bits.
The Eclipse is much rarer, with around a 1 in 500 chance of occurring. Based on the current information, the Eclipse does not have a special effect yet. This could potentially change in a future update.
Dirt Paths and Movement Speed
There is also a small map feature that can be useful while exploring. Walking across a dirt path makes your character move faster. This may seem like a minor feature, but it can be useful when searching for the Merchant. Since the Merchant can appear in different areas, using dirt paths while traveling around the map can help you move between locations more quickly.
How to Progress Quickly
A simple progression strategy for TBOD^2 is to combine your tycoon upgrades with Bits and rebirths. During the early game, spend your cash on upgrades until your income becomes more stable. Once you have enough money, start looking for the Merchant and purchase cards that can give you Bits.
