Progressing in Mine a Mountain is mostly about knowing what to upgrade first and where to spend your time. At the start, mining basic resources and selling them is enough to get some Cash, but the game becomes slower if you keep using weak equipment or spend your money on upgrades that do not help much.
The main goal should be to improve your Pickaxe, Backpack, and Warmth while slowly moving toward better mining areas. Once your equipment becomes strong enough, you can start targeting better crystals and special resources such as Boulders and Runes.

If you constantly have to stop because your inventory is full, consider putting your next upgrade into Backpack capacity.

The general idea is simple: use stronger equipment to reach better resources, then use the extra Cash to upgrade again. Instead of only mining whatever is directly in front of you, pay attention to the value of the materials around you and decide whether traveling deeper is worth the time.
Do Not Ignore Boulders
Boulders are worth considering once your Pickaxe is strong enough. These large rocks can take much longer to break than normal resources, but they can reward you with rare crystals and Runes. Different Boulders have different Pickaxe requirements, so you cannot mine every type immediately. The current requirements include:

- Gildrite: Eclipse Fang
- Rimeveil: Voidreign
- Nocturnite: The Terminus
If you have the required Pickaxe, Boulders can become an additional source of valuable loot.
Use a Boulder Radar
Finding Boulders by randomly digging is possible, but it is not the fastest method. A Boulder Radar can help you locate them more efficiently. You can purchase these from the Radar Shop at Base when they are available.
Once activated, the radar works for 30 seconds and highlights nearby Boulders. It can also tell you which type of Boulder has been detected. Because the radar has a short duration, prepare your route before activating it. Once you find a target, start digging toward it instead of wasting the radar’s active time.
Farm Runes for Extra Benefits
Boulders are also worth farming because they can provide Runes. Runes can be placed on your plot to provide temporary buffs. Depending on the Rune, these effects can improve useful stats such as Luck or carrying capacity.
If you are already strong enough to break Boulders, do not only think about the Cash value of the crystals. Runes can also help make your future runs more efficient. This makes Boulder farming useful for both immediate rewards and improving your overall setup.
Save Your Cash for Important Upgrades
One common mistake is spending Cash whenever you have enough for something. Instead, think about which upgrade will actually improve your progress. Prioritize things such as:
- Better Pickaxe
- Larger Backpack
- More Warmth
- Equipment needed to access harder resources
Try to avoid wasting your money if you are close to an important upgrade. Saving for a stronger Pickaxe can often help you earn more Cash afterward because you will be able to mine better materials.
Spend More Time Mining
Once your Backpack and Warmth are upgraded, try to make longer mining trips. Constantly returning to Base wastes time, especially if you are traveling a long distance to reach better resources. A larger Backpack means you can collect more before returning, while better Warmth allows you to stay in colder areas for longer. The goal is to reduce unnecessary trips and make every mining session more productive.
Choose a Safe Mining Route
Having a route can make your runs much more efficient. Instead of randomly digging in every direction, choose an area where you know you can find useful resources and work through it systematically.
This is even more helpful when using a Boulder Radar. Once you locate a valuable Boulder, create a clear path toward it so you do not lose track of its location. If you are specifically farming Boulders, a private server can also be useful because you do not have to worry about other players interfering with your finds.
Use Your Time Wisely
Some resources are much slower to mine than others. Boulders, in particular, can take a significant amount of time even with a strong Pickaxe. Keep track of how much time you have left before starting a long mining task.
If you are almost finished with your session, it may be better to collect easier resources instead of starting a Boulder that you may not have enough time to finish. Planning your mining session around the time available can prevent wasted runs.
Best Upgrade Order for Faster Progress
If you are unsure what to upgrade first, a simple progression path is:
- Pickaxe: Improve your mining power and unlock harder resources.
- Backpack: Carry more materials before returning to Base.
- Warmth: Stay in colder areas for longer.
- Better mining areas: Start targeting more valuable crystals.
- Boulders: Farm them once your Pickaxe meets the requirements.
- Boulder Radar: Use it to find valuable Boulders faster.
- Runes: Collect and use their buffs to improve future runs.
This order is not a strict rule, but it gives newer players a good idea of where their Cash can have the biggest impact.
The fastest way to progress in Mine a Mountain is not simply to dig as quickly as possible. You need to build a good upgrade cycle where stronger equipment lets you reach better resources, those resources give you more Cash, and the extra Cash funds your next upgrade.
Focus on your Pickaxe, Backpack, and Warmth first. Once you have better equipment, start exploring deeper areas and searching for more valuable crystals. When you become strong enough, add Boulders, Runes, and Boulder Radars to your routine.
