The latest All Star Tower Defense (ASTD) update has brought back several features that longtime players may recognize from the older version of the game. The biggest surprise is the return of the OG lobby, but that is only one part of the update.
Along with the classic lobby, players can now use Banner Selection, progress through a Star Pass, collect units through the new Unit Index, and use Story Skipper to make story progression much faster. A new unit has also been added, making this update feel quite different from the previous version.
What Happened All Star Tower Defense!
The update includes several major features and changes:
- The OG lobby has returned, giving the game a classic look and bringing back the older ASTD atmosphere that veteran players may remember.
- The Star Pass and Premium Star Pass offer various rewards, including units, skin capsules, shinies, and additional currency.
- Banner Selection allows players to choose which units appear on the banner, giving them more control over how they spend Gems and other summoning resources.
- A new ground unit called Mr. Catholic has been added. He has multiple upgrades and special attacks, including Exploding Chain. Depending on his level and setup, his damage can reach around 1 million.
- Mr. Catholic also has an ability called Helena’s Hand. According to its description, Helena’s Nail applies Judgment to enemies within range and deals damage based on Mr. Catholic’s damage.
- The Unit Index is now available in the World 1 lobby. Players can speak with the School Idols NPC near the summoning area to view their collected units and claim rewards such as Stardust and Gems by completing collections.
- Story Skipper makes story progression faster. After completing the required stage and earning a full clear, players can use it to skip the remaining progression for that story section.
These features give players more ways to collect units, earn rewards, and progress through the game. Story Skipper should be especially useful for experienced players with strong teams who do not want to replay older story stages repeatedly.
What is Coming
The return of classic features could indicate that ASTD is moving toward systems inspired by its older version. The OG lobby brings back the nostalgic atmosphere, while Banner Selection provides a more flexible summoning experience.
Players can also expect to spend more time upgrading new units and collecting evolution materials. For example, Okarun requires several raid materials to evolve, including the Memory Ball, which has a low drop chance. Players who want to fully upgrade him will need to spend time farming.
Future updates could also expand crafting, unit progression, story improvements, and other content. Since the current update combines nostalgia with quality-of-life features, upcoming updates may continue in the same direction.
The Unit Index could become even more valuable as additional units are released. Collectors will be able to complete more categories while earning Stardust and Gems as rewards.
This ASTD update is much more than a simple lobby change. The return of the OG lobby, together with Banner Selection, Star Pass, Unit Index, Story Skipper, and new units, gives players plenty of reasons to check the game again.
The Story Skipper is especially useful for anyone who is tired of replaying old story stages, while Banner Selection gives summoning a more controlled approach. The OG lobby, meanwhile, adds the nostalgic part that longtime players have been asking for.
It may be too early to say that the original ASTD experience is completely back, but this update certainly feels like a step in that direction. If the developers continue adding features that combine the old ASTD experience with newer systems, future updates could make the game even more interesting for returning players.
