The Zobo Horde Invasion is one of the more challenging modes in Clash of Critters. Instead of playing alone, you can team up with another player and work together to survive waves of Zobos and powerful bosses. You can invite a friend or team up with another player who is also looking for a partner.

The event is designed around teamwork, smart Tatari placement, and knowing when to change your formation. As you progress through the difficulties, the enemies become much harder, so simply having strong Tatari is not always enough. The Horde mode also has special buffs, nerfs, Chips, and Tatari skills that make it different from the normal game modes.

How the Zobo Horde Invasion Works

The Horde Invasion runs on a repeating four-hour schedule. The event stays active for three hours, giving players time to complete their available rounds, followed by one hour of cooldown before the event becomes active again.

There are three regular attempts available during an active period. However, your score is based on your highest score from those attempts rather than adding all three scores together.

You can continue playing the event multiple times throughout the day whenever it becomes active. Placement rewards are only given once per day. If you achieve a better ranking later, you receive the difference between your old reward and the new one. Your total daily rewards are also capped at the amount given for first place.

Horde Waves and Bosses

A complete Horde run contains 25 waves, with up to 750 kills available. Boss Zobos appear throughout the waves, with some waves featuring more than one boss. The boss order includes:

  • Wave 1: Two-Headed Zobo
  • Wave 2: Goonch Zobo
  • Wave 3: Captain Zobo
  • Wave 4: Shaman Zobo
  • Wave 5: Roadhog Zobo — Chip wave
  • Wave 6: Popstar Zobo
  • Wave 7: Hydro Zobo
  • Wave 8: Tipsy Zobo
  • Wave 9: Knight Zobo
  • Wave 10: Climber Zobo — Chip wave
  • Wave 11: Shocker Zobo
  • Wave 12: Sailor Zobo
  • Wave 13: Chef Zobo
  • Wave 14: Botanical Zobo
  • Wave 15: Golf Zobo and Sandworm Zobo — Chip wave
  • Wave 16: Harpoon Zobo
  • Wave 17: Forge Zobo
  • Wave 18: Pharaoh Zobo
  • Wave 19: Clown Zobo
  • Wave 20: Manager Zobo and Yeti Zobo
  • Wave 21: Totem Zobo
  • Wave 22: Garden Zobo
  • Wave 23: Volcano Zobo
  • Wave 24: Laser Zobo
  • Wave 25: Tipsy Zobo, Sandworm Zobo, and Botanical Zobo

The later waves are generally where the run becomes much more demanding. The Volcano, Laser, and Sandworm bosses can cause major problems if your formation is not prepared for them.

Horde Difficulty Levels

There are four difficulty levels in the Zobo Horde Invasion. Difficulty 1 is the easiest option, while Difficulty 4 is the hardest. Clearing higher difficulties is important because the leaderboard does not only look at the number of enemies you defeat.

Difficulty also affects your ranking. For example, a player with only 10 kills on Difficulty 4 can rank above someone who has 745 kills on Difficulty 3. Because of this, pushing into higher difficulties can be much more valuable than simply farming kills on an easier setting. There is also a useful bonus for first-time clears. When you beat a difficulty for the first time, that clear does not consume one of your three regular attempts.

Camp Lock During Horde

There is one thing to remember before starting a Horde run. If your camp is currently being attacked, you cannot interact with the camp until the attack ends. Because of this, make sure you finish anything important at your camp before starting the Horde event.

What Are Horde Chips?

Chips are special randomized buffs that you can obtain during a Horde run. They can completely change how your formation performs, so choosing the right Chip can be just as important as choosing the right Tatari.

Each player can hold up to three Chips. With two players in a team, that means the team can have up to six Chips in total. Chip rarity and the available choices are randomized. A Chip boss appears at certain points during the run. These bosses have a Chip symbol above their heads. The color of the symbol shows the Chip’s rarity. After defeating the boss, you receive three Chip choices and must select one.

Tatari Skills in Horde Mode

Tatari behave differently in Horde because they can learn additional skills specifically for this mode. Each Tatari can be upgraded seven times. Every level provides a stat increase, while new abilities are unlocked at Levels 3, 5, and 7.

The base skill is the normal ability that the Tatari uses in other modes. The additional Horde skills remain consistent across the Tatari’s evolutionary line. This means an evolved Tatari can have better stats than its basic form, but the skills learned through Horde level upgrades remain part of the same skill progression.

How to Deal With Difficult Horde Bosses

Some bosses are much more annoying than normal Zobos. The Laser Zobo, Volcano Zobo, and Sandworm can force you to change your formation or use special mechanics.

Laser Zobo Strategy

Laser Zobo appears on Wave 24 and can be difficult because of its attack animation and the number of smaller Zobos around it. One of the safest methods is to use Lawn Care.

When the Laser Zobo approaches, open a path before it performs its laser animation. Allow the boss and some smaller Zobos to pass through the opening and trigger the lawn mower.

The mower can remove several normal Zobos while taking a large portion of the boss’s HP. After the Laser Zobo moves through, close the path again and return your defensive Tatari to their previous positions.

If you do not have Lawn Care, you can use your HP as a resource. Clear enough of the smaller enemies first, then open a path and allow the Laser Zobo to pass. Another advanced option is using Level 5 Hootlet and Level 7 Beetle-related control to repeatedly interrupt the Laser Zobo’s attack pattern. The idea is to prevent the boss from completing its dangerous animation while your team continues dealing damage.

Volcano Zobo Strategy

Volcano Zobo can be dangerous because of its explosive area attacks and revival mechanic. Instead of trying to tank its attacks directly, opening a path and allowing the boss to move through can be safer. Once it passes, close the path again and let your other Tatari handle the remaining enemies.

If you have the Underdog Chip, a tank such as Manteeny can be used more aggressively against the Volcano boss because the Chip changes how elemental counters work. Without Underdog, avoid simply placing Manteeny in front of the boss and hoping it survives.

You can also use support and control Tatari to make the fight safer. Weakening effects from Tatari such as Sealing or Flameow can reduce the danger, while pushback abilities from Tatari such as Lion or higher-level support effects can keep the Volcano boss farther away from your back line.

Slowing and delaying the boss is another good option. Beetle’s vortex can be positioned on the side of the battlefield to delay the boss instead of accidentally pulling it closer.

Sandworm Strategy

Sandworm is one of the more difficult bosses because it can appear outside the normal attack range of many Tatari. There are several ways to handle it. One option is Maskfry. Maskfry can pull the Sandworm closer so that your other Tatari can reach it.

Another option is Lawn Care. Open a path and use the smaller Zobos to trigger the lawn mower. The mower can deal significant damage to the Sandworm even when normal attacks have trouble reaching it.

Beetle can also help. Unlike the Volcano boss, where you generally want to avoid pulling it too close, the Sandworm benefits from being pulled toward your formation. Position the Beetle close to the Sandworm and use its vortex to pull the boss closer. Once it enters the attack range of your main DPS, you can close the path and focus your damage on it.

Position Your Tatari Around the Boss Spawn

Horde runs are not always about keeping every Tatari in the same position. When a difficult boss appears, move your strongest damage dealers toward the lane where the boss spawns. This is especially important during the final waves. If some lanes are already safe and have very few enemies, you can move those Tatari to another lane that needs more damage.

For example, if the Sandworm appears on the second lane, move more of your DPS toward that area. Support Tatari can also be moved to buff the main damage group. Do not waste time trying to defeat every normal Zobo immediately if the lane is already safe. Sometimes it is better to open a path, let smaller enemies move through, and focus all of your damage on the boss. Just make sure the number of enemies passing through is manageable.

Use Multi-Lane Damage Carefully

Tatari with attacks that cover multiple lanes can be valuable during boss waves. Instead of automatically placing them in the center, consider placing them on the side where they can cover the boss lane while still helping other lanes.

Support Tatari can also create more space for these attacks. When the Sandworm appears, for example, you can concentrate your main DPS around its spawn point while keeping multi-lane attackers positioned where they can still contribute damage.

Three Important Horde Techniques

There are three basic techniques worth learning if you want to improve your Horde scores.

1. Open a Path

Opening a path allows dangerous bosses to move through your formation instead of forcing your team to tank their attacks. This is especially useful against Laser and Volcano bosses. The key is timing. Do not open the path too early or you may allow too many normal Zobos through at once.

2. Use Lawn Care

Lawn Care can solve several difficult situations at once. The lawn mower can remove normal Zobos while also taking a large chunk of a boss’s HP. This makes it especially useful when a boss is difficult to reach or when your normal DPS cannot safely attack it.

3. Control Boss Movement

Beetle’s vortex is another powerful tool. Depending on where you position it, you can either pull a boss toward your formation or delay its movement. Against bosses such as Sandworm, pulling the boss closer can allow your normal DPS to reach it.

Against Volcano Zobo, positioning the vortex to the side can delay the boss and give it more time to trigger its dangerous attack before reaching your main formation. Learning when to pull and when to delay is an important part of high-level Horde play.

The Zobo Horde Invasion is a mode where positioning and timing matter just as much as your Tatari’s strength. The later waves can become difficult very quickly, but many of the dangerous situations can be handled by using the mechanics available to you.

Learning how to open paths, use Lawn Care, control bosses with Beetle, pull Sandworm into attack range, and move your DPS toward important boss lanes will make your runs much more consistent.

Chips also play a major role, so try to build your choices around the Tatari and formation you are already using. Once you understand how these systems work together, pushing into higher difficulties and improving your leaderboard score becomes much easier.
