Melee Mastery is an important progression system in The Veil, especially for players who want to build their character around swords, daggers, greatswords, tridents, and other melee weapons. Simply finding a powerful legendary weapon is not enough, because you also need to complete the required mastery process to unlock its full potential.
The Melee Mastery Oath is obtained through Valor, the War Emperor, who can be found inside the Coliseum. You will need a suitable legendary melee weapon and must complete a damage requirement before the mastery is unlocked.
How to Get Melee Mastery
To start working toward the Melee Mastery Oath, first make your way to the Coliseum. One of the easiest routes starts from the Merchant, which gives you a clear landmark to follow before heading toward the area where Valor is located.
From the Merchant, move toward the gate in front of the area and go through it. After entering, continue along the path while keeping toward the right side. Follow this route through the area until you eventually reach the Coliseum.
Once you arrive at the Coliseum, look for Valor, the War Emperor. He is the NPC responsible for the Melee Mastery Oath, so make sure you are speaking with the correct trainer before starting the process.
After finding Valor, you need to provide him with a Legendary Melee Weapon. The weapon type does not have to be a specific sword, giving you several options depending on which legendary weapon you already have.
Weapons that can be used for the requirement include:
- Legendary Dagger
- Legendary Sword
- Legendary Greatsword
- Legendary Trident
- Other Legendary Melee Weapons
Make sure the weapon you use qualifies as a legendary melee weapon. Once you hand it over to Valor, he will give you the next requirement for obtaining your Melee Mastery Oath.
Complete 25,000 Melee Damage
After giving Valor the required legendary weapon, you will receive a quest that requires you to deal 25,000 melee damage. This is the main grind you need to complete before the Melee Mastery Oath becomes available.
You can work toward the requirement by fighting enemies with your melee weapon. Keep using your melee attacks and abilities until the total damage reaches 25,000. It is worth keeping track of your progress so you know how much more damage you need.
Once you successfully deal the full 25,000 melee damage, the Melee Mastery Oath requirement is completed. You can then use the mastery as part of your melee-focused character build.
What Does Melee Mastery Do?
Melee Mastery is designed for players who want to focus heavily on close-range combat and legendary melee weapons. It can fit well with builds that rely on weapons such as swords, daggers, greatswords, and tridents.
The system also becomes more useful when combined with classes and accessories. Rather than building your character around several unrelated damage types, you can focus your equipment and class choices around melee combat and create a more specialized setup.

Can You Change Melee Mastery?
Yes, you can change your Mastery Oath later if you decide that Melee is no longer the right choice for your character. You are not permanently locked into the mastery you select.
To change your current Mastery Oath, you need to find Kharvos inside the Castle. He is located on the second floor toward the back-left area of the Castle.
For example, if you started with Melee Mastery but later want to move to Magic or another mastery, you can visit Kharvos and reset your current choice. This makes it easier to experiment with different builds as you progress through The Veil.
Getting the Melee Mastery Oath in The Veil requires a trip to the Coliseum and a visit to Valor, the War Emperor. Bring a qualifying Legendary Melee Weapon, accept his quest, and deal a total of 25,000 melee damage to complete the requirement.
