Deepwoken has added a set of new weapon talents that can change how certain weapons and builds are played. Some of these talents are straightforward, while others are much more situational and may require a specific build to get the most value from them. Several of the new talents also interact directly with critical attacks, dodges, running attacks, or other mechanics, making them interesting options for PvP.
This guide goes over the weapon talents shown in the gameplay and explains their main effects, along with some of the situations where they can be useful.
1. Frenzied Slash
Frenzied Slash is centered around your critical attack wind-up. Any damage you take while charging the critical attack is added to the damage of that critical. This means you can intentionally absorb damage during the wind-up and then return that damage to your opponent.
The talent can be especially dangerous when you have a large amount of health available and can safely set up the critical. However, taking damage just to increase your attack can also be risky, so timing is important.
2. Return to Stone Ages
Return to Stone Ages is designed for Rock builds and makes Table Flip significantly larger. The increased size gives the attack much more coverage, potentially making it easier to hit opponents who are trying to move around you.
The talent can be fun to use in PvP, especially when combined with other Rock abilities, although its effectiveness still depends heavily on the rest of your build.
3. Embedded Nails
Embedded Nails activates when an opponent dodges your critical attack. If that same player rolls repeatedly after dodging the critical, the talent can cause them to become ragdolled.
This makes the talent useful for punishing players who rely heavily on repeated rolls. However, the difficult part is actually getting the opponent to dodge your critical in the first place. Players who understand the mechanic can avoid giving you the opportunity to trigger it consistently.
4. Hunter’s Chase
Hunter’s Chase improves running attacks by giving them much more range. This allows you to connect with an opponent from a greater distance than normal and can be especially useful when chasing players who are trying to escape.
The extra range can also make running attacks useful for starting fights or catching opponents who are moving away from you. Among the talents shown, this one has some strong practical value for open-world PvP and chase situations.
5. Pastry Platter
Pastry Platter gives you a random food buff whenever you guard break an opponent with your critical attack. The buff is selected randomly and does not provide the most powerful food effects.
Depending on the result, you may receive benefits such as increased movement speed, extra damage, improved mantra performance, or faster healing. The problem is that the effect can be difficult to notice, and the game does not always make the active buff very obvious.
Because of this, Pastry Platter is more of a fun and unpredictable talent than a guaranteed way to make a build stronger.
6. Motor Mastery
Motor Mastery summons mysterious creatures above your opponent when you land a Great Cantaloupe. The summoned creatures then target the affected player and attack them.
An interesting part of this talent is that having additional entities nearby can increase the number of summons or improve how the effect performs. This can make it especially interesting when combined with clones or other abilities that create additional entities.
The talent is quite unusual and can be difficult for opponents to predict, making it useful for creative builds.
7. Quartz Stone Pickaxe
The Quartz Stone Pickaxe talent rewards mining. Every ore you successfully mine gives you an additional 1% damage.
This is obviously more specialized than the other talents, since you need to spend time mining to build up its effect. However, a character that regularly farms ore can potentially turn the bonus into a useful source of extra damage.
Are the New Weapon Talents Good?
The new talents are not all designed to be universally powerful. Some are clearly niche options that become much better when paired with the right weapon, mantra, origin, or build.
Hunter’s Chase stands out for chase-based gameplay because of its increased running attack range. Frenzied Slash can create huge critical attacks if you can safely take damage during the wind-up. Embedded Nails is more dependent on your opponent’s behavior, while Pastry Platter provides random buffs that can be difficult to build around.
Motor Mastery is another interesting option for creative setups because of its interaction with additional entities and clones. Meanwhile, Quartz Stone Pickaxe is heavily focused on players who are willing to spend time mining for its stacking damage bonus.
Overall, the new talents add more ways to experiment with Deepwoken builds rather than simply replacing existing options. Some may become much stronger once players discover specific combinations and setups.
Deepwoken’s new weapon talents offer several unusual mechanics, with some focused on critical attacks, movement, summons, or passive bonuses. Frenzied Slash can turn damage taken during a critical wind-up into extra damage, Hunter’s Chase greatly increases running attack range, and Embedded Nails can punish repeated dodges. Other talents like Motor Mastery, Pastry Platter, Return to Stone Ages, and Quartz Stone Pickaxe are more specialized but can still be effective with the right setup.
Because many of these talents are niche, their real value will depend on how players build around them. Some may look average on their own but become surprisingly strong when combined with the right weapons and abilities.
