Choosing the right troops can make a big difference in Command an Army. While every unit has its own role, some troops are much more useful than others once you start fighting stronger enemies and other players. This tier list ranks the available units based on their rarity, usefulness, and overall value in battle.

There are currently units ranging from one-star troops all the way to four-star units. Higher rarity usually means a unit is harder to obtain, but rarity alone does not always decide which troop is best for your army.

Command an Army Unit Tier List

Here is a simple ranking of the current units:

  • S Tier: Immortal, Samurai, Berserker, Spartan
  • A Tier: Crossbowman, Scout Rider
  • B Tier: Mercenary, Spearman, Shieldman
  • C Tier: Archer

The ranking is mainly based on the unit’s rarity and expected combat value. Your upgrades and ascension level can also change how well a unit performs, so don’t immediately discard a lower-rarity troop.

S Tier – Best Units

S Tier contains the strongest units you can currently get. Most of these troops are four-star units, making them much harder to pull than common troops.

Immortal

Immortal is one of the best units to aim for in Command an Army. It is a four-star troop with a 0.19% pull chance, making it extremely rare.

Its rarity alone makes Immortal an attractive addition to your army, but its real value comes from having a much higher ceiling than common troops. If you manage to obtain one, it is worth investing in upgrades and testing it as part of your main lineup.

Samurai

Samurai is another four-star unit and one of the rarest troops available. Its listed pull chance is only 0.06%, so getting one can take a lot of luck.

For players looking for a strong melee-focused army, Samurai is one of the units worth targeting. If you get one early, consider making it one of your main troops and investing resources into improving it.

Berserker

Berserker has a four-star rarity with a 0.06% pull chance. It is one of the hardest units to obtain, but that rarity makes it a strong long-term option.

Berserker is especially appealing if you prefer aggressive gameplay and want your army to focus on pushing into enemy positions. With proper upgrades, it can become an important part of a strong lineup.

Spartan

Spartan is another four-star unit with a 0.19% pull chance. Like the other four-star troops, it is considerably rarer than the basic units.

Its high rarity gives it excellent potential for a developed army. If you pull Spartan, it is generally worth keeping rather than replacing it with common troops.

A Tier – Strong Units

A Tier units may not be as rare as the four-star troops, but they can still be very useful. These are good choices while you’re building your collection or waiting to obtain stronger four-star units.

Crossbowman

Crossbowman is a three-star unit with a 4.00% pull chance. Compared with the four-star troops, it is much easier to obtain.

The Crossbowman can also fill an important ranged role in your army. Rather than sending every troop directly into melee combat, ranged units can provide support from behind your frontline.

For newer players, Crossbowman is a very solid unit to use while progressing toward a stronger lineup.

Scout Rider

Scout Rider is a two-star unit with a 20.00% pull chance, making it one of the more accessible troops in the game.

Despite its lower rarity, Scout Rider can be useful because of its mobility. Fast units can help you chase enemies, move between objectives, and support different areas of the battlefield.

Don’t underestimate Scout Rider simply because it has two stars. A well-upgraded or ascended Scout Rider can become much more effective than its base rarity suggests.

B Tier – Decent Units

B Tier contains the basic troops that can help you during the early stages of the game. They are easier to obtain and can fill gaps in your army while you’re building a better lineup.

Mercenary

Mercenary is a one-star unit with an 18.88% pull chance. It is one of the most common troops available.

Mercenaries are useful when you’re just starting because you can obtain them easily and use them to fill your army. However, you will eventually want to replace them with stronger units as your collection improves.

Spearman

Spearman also has a one-star rarity and an 18.88% pull chance. It can serve as a basic frontline troop for newer players.

Spearman isn’t a unit you need to chase after, but it can still be useful while you don’t have access to better troops. Keep upgrading your strongest available units rather than worrying about rarity too early.

Shieldman

Shieldman is another one-star troop with an 18.88% pull chance. Its main advantage is being easy to obtain.

It can help provide a basic defensive presence in your army. However, once you begin collecting higher-rarity troops, you will probably want to move Shieldman out of your main lineup.

C Tier – Basic Units

C Tier currently consists of the Archer. This doesn’t necessarily mean the unit is useless. Instead, it is mainly a lower-priority choice when compared with the other available options.

Archer

Archer is a one-star unit with an 18.88% pull chance and a listed placement cost of 20.

Its ranged attacks can still provide value, especially for beginners who need some distance between their troops and enemy forces. However, there are better options available once you start obtaining stronger units.

If Archer is one of your first troops, feel free to use it while progressing. Just don’t spend too many resources on it if you already have access to better ranged options such as Crossbowman.

Which Unit Should You Use?

Command an Army

If you are lucky enough to obtain a four-star unit, it should be one of the first troops you test in your main lineup. Immortal, Samurai, Berserker, and Spartan are all excellent targets because of their rarity.

However, beginners shouldn’t feel forced to wait for a four-star pull before building an army. Scout Rider and Crossbowman are both useful alternatives, and their higher availability makes them much easier to develop. A simple progression path is:

  • Start with the one-star troops you receive.
  • Add Scout Rider when you obtain it.
  • Use Crossbowman for ranged support.
  • Upgrade your most useful units.
  • Replace weaker troops as better units become available.
  • Move into a four-star lineup when you get strong rare units.
  • Continue upgrading and ascending your best troops.

Does Rarity Always Mean Better?

Not necessarily. Rarity is a good indication of how difficult a unit is to obtain, but it doesn’t tell you everything about how useful a troop will be in every situation. A lower-rarity unit with several upgrades or ascensions can sometimes perform better than a newly obtained high-rarity troop.

This is especially important for players who don’t have many resources. Instead of replacing a unit immediately, test it in battle first. Look at how quickly it defeats enemies, how long it survives, and how useful it is when capturing or defending objectives.

Best Beginner Lineup

For a new player, you don’t need to build your entire army around four-star units. A balanced team is more practical while you’re still learning the game. A beginner lineup can focus on:

  • Scout Rider for mobility.
  • Crossbowman for ranged support.
  • Mercenary or Spearman for basic frontline combat.
  • Shieldman when you need additional defensive support.
  • A four-star unit once you are lucky enough to obtain one.

As your collection grows, start replacing the weaker one-star troops with stronger units.

The best units in Command an Army are generally the four-star troops, with Immortal, Samurai, Berserker, and Spartan sitting at the top of this ranking. They are extremely difficult to pull, so getting one can give your army a major boost.

That said, don’t overlook Scout Rider and Crossbowman. Both can be useful while you’re building your collection, and upgrades or ascension can make lower-rarity units surprisingly powerful.

For most beginners, the best strategy is to build around the strongest troops you actually have rather than waiting for a perfect lineup. Upgrade useful units, experiment with different combinations, and replace your weaker troops as you obtain better options.
