Sound Breathing is one of the more difficult Breathing Styles to unlock in Slayers 2 because its trainer is located deep inside the snowy Iceveil Valley. The cold environment constantly drains your health, so traveling there without preparation can make the journey much harder.
Before starting the quest, make sure you meet the level and material requirements. You will also need to complete several training minigames and defeat the Sound Trainee before the style becomes available. Here is everything you need to know about unlocking Sound Breathing in Slayers 2.
Sound Breathing Requirements
You need to meet several requirements before Tengai will allow you to start the Sound Breathing questline.
- Level: 25
- Wen: 3,000
- Demon Horns: 10
- Beast Cores: 3
Make sure you have all of these items before traveling to Iceveil Valley. The snow region can drain your health while you are moving through it, so bringing some healing items is also recommended.
Where to Find the Sound Breathing Trainer
The Sound Breathing trainer is Tengai, who can be found in Iceveil Valley. The area is located deep inside the snow region, making Tengai slightly harder to reach than some other Breathing Style trainers. Follow these steps to find Tengai:
- Start from the first major area near Crew.
- Travel toward the Mother Bear area.
- Turn left and enter the snowy region.
- Continue through the snow while keeping an eye on your health.
- Use the campfires along the route to recover health.
- Pass two campfires.
- Turn right when you reach the NPC and continue toward the water.
- Cross the area near the water.
- Climb the first large mountain you see.
- Tengai will be located on the other side of the mountain.
The snow will continuously damage you while you are traveling, so do not rush through the area without watching your health. Campfires are especially useful because they allow you to recover before continuing toward the trainer.
Once you reach Tengai, interact with the NPC while carrying the required Wen, Demon Horns, and Beast Cores.
Sound Breathing Training Tasks
After meeting Tengai and starting the quest, you need to complete a series of training tasks. The game will provide a quest marker to help you find each objective.
The training includes several different minigames, so pay attention to the instructions shown on screen.
Push Ups
The Push Ups task requires you to follow the button prompts that appear on screen. Watch the timing indicator and press the correct buttons as they reach the required position.
Continue hitting the prompts correctly until your progress reaches 100%.
This task is mostly about timing. Avoid randomly pressing buttons because missed inputs can slow down your progress.
Barbell Squats
For the Barbell Squats task, you need to match your input with the movement of the bar.
Watch how the bar moves up and down, then keep your input lined up with it. Continue following its movement until the progress reaches 100%.
Take your time and focus on keeping the timing consistent rather than trying to finish as quickly as possible.
Boulder Split
The Boulder Split task requires you to copy the movement shown on screen to break through a large boulder.
Pay attention to the pattern and follow the displayed movements correctly. Keep matching the required inputs until the boulder is completely broken and the task is finished.
If you miss the pattern, simply focus on the next movement instead of rushing through the sequence.
Cup Training
Cup Training is a memory-based minigame. A ball will be placed under one of three cups before the cups are shuffled.
Watch the cups carefully and track where the ball moves. Once the shuffle ends, select the cup you believe contains the ball.
The minigame lasts for 10 rounds, and you have three lives. Choosing the wrong cup costs one life, so carefully watching the movement is important.
Underwater Rocks
For the Underwater Rocks objective, you need to find five blue glowing rocks inside the lake at Bamboo Grove.
Enter the lake and swim around the bottom while searching for the glowing rocks. Collect all five to complete the task.
The rocks can be easier to spot if you move around the lake slowly instead of swimming around randomly. Once all five have been collected, the quest will move on to the final challenge.
Defeat the Sound Trainee
After completing the training tasks, you will face the Sound Trainee. This is the final challenge required to unlock Sound Breathing.
The Sound Trainee can attack quickly, so avoid standing directly in front of them for too long. Watch their movements and dodge incoming attacks before looking for an opportunity to counterattack.
A simple approach is to focus on survival first. Wait for the boss to finish an attack, then use the opening to deal damage. Trying to attack constantly can leave you open to a counterattack.
Once the Sound Trainee is defeated, the Sound Breathing Style will be unlocked.
How to Unlock Sound Breathing Skills
Defeating the Sound Trainee unlocks Sound Breathing, but you still need to purchase its individual techniques.
Open your Skill Tree and look for the Sound Breathing abilities. You can then spend Skill Points to unlock the moves you want.
Not every ability costs the same amount, so check the Skill Tree before spending your points. If you already know which Sound Breathing moves you want to use, planning your Skill Point spending can help you unlock the important abilities sooner.
Tips for Getting Sound Breathing
The hardest part of this quest for many players is reaching Tengai rather than completing the training itself. The snow region constantly drains health, so preparation can save you a lot of trouble.
Keep these tips in mind:
- Make sure you are at least Level 25.
- Bring 3,000 Wen before starting the quest.
- Collect 10 Demon Horns and 3 Beast Cores beforehand.
- Bring health potions if you have them.
- Use campfires to restore health while crossing Iceveil Valley.
- Do not waste health by staying in the snow longer than necessary.
- Watch the prompts carefully during the training minigames.
- Focus on dodging during the Sound Trainee fight.
- Save enough Skill Points for the Sound Breathing moves you actually want.
Sound Breathing takes some preparation, but the unlock process becomes much easier once you know where Tengai is and what each task requires. The biggest thing to remember is to prepare for the snowy area before making the trip to Iceveil Valley.
Reach Tengai, complete the five training minigames, defeat the Sound Trainee, and Sound Breathing will be added to your available styles. After that, use the Skill Tree to unlock its individual techniques and build your preferred Sound Breathing setup.
