Overwatch Season 5 Release Date, New Hero Doctrine, Sombra Rework and More!
Overwatch Season 5 is scheduled to begin on October 6, 2026. The new season is set to bring a large amount of content, including a new Support hero, two hero reworks, a new payload map, new skins, the return of the Halloween event, and more story content.
If you are still working on your Season 4 Battle Pass, make sure to finish the remaining rewards before Season 5 goes live. Once the new season starts, Season 4 content and its progression will no longer be the main focus. There are also several details that Blizzard has not revealed yet, especially when it comes to Mythic skins and some of the upcoming seasonal cosmetics.
New Hero: Doctrine
The biggest new addition in Season 5 is Doctrine, a new Support hero with a vampire-inspired design. The character was previously shown during BlizzCon and also received a public playtest, giving players an early look at how his abilities work.
Doctrine uses a special scepter that can both damage enemies and heal teammates. He also has small bat-like drones that can be sent toward allies, giving him another way to provide healing and support during fights.

Sombra Rework
Sombra is receiving one of the biggest changes in Season 5. Instead of remaining a Damage hero focused on hacking enemies, she will be reworked into a Support hero.
Her hacking mechanic is being changed so that she can use it on allies instead. This gives Sombra a completely different role in team fights and changes how players will need to approach the character.

Roadhog Rework

Grimsvaten has a very different visual style compared with many existing Overwatch maps. Instead of focusing on a traditional city or natural environment, the map combines a massive volcanic location with a high-tech prison facility.

New Doki Watch Skins
Doki Watch is returning with another collection of magical-girl-themed skins. Five new skins have been shown for the following heroes:
- Emre
- Mercy
- Ramattra
- Lifeweaver
- Juno
The set continues the colorful magical-girl style from the previous Doki Watch content.
However, there is an important detail regarding the Ramattra skin. It is expected to be an Ultra skin, which means it comes with additional visual effects compared with a standard Legendary skin.
Ultra skins have also been sold at a much higher price, with the previously revealed price being $35.
Lifeweaver’s Doki Watch skin also appears to contain some effects similar to Ramattra’s version. This has led to speculation that it could also be an Ultra skin, although Blizzard would need to confirm the details.
The other three skins are expected to be standard Legendary skins based on what has been shown so far.
What About Mythic Skins?

Despite the large amount of Season 5 information shown around BlizzCon, Blizzard did not reveal the Mythic lineup.
