Anime Expeditions Update 3.5 is here with a new event called Monster Clash. This update adds two new units, new equipment, event quests, a new Rift system, and some useful quality-of-life changes. The two main units are Subject 8 and Alchemy Brothers Truth. Subject 8 is based on Kaiju No. 8, while Alchemy Brothers Truth is mainly a support unit. If you want both units, you will need to spend some time farming the new event. Here is everything you need to know about Update 3.5.
How to Play Monster Clash
Monster Clash is the main event mode in Update 3.5. The stage has two paths, with enemies coming from opposite sides. The two paths cross in the middle of the map. If enemies from both sides reach the crossing, they can merge and become stronger monsters.
Because of this, placing your units in the middle is a good strategy. Your units can attack enemies from both sides and stop them before they merge. Monster Clash can be played with up to four players. You can also use auto-play once your team is strong enough.
The stage has 15 waves, and the enemies become stronger as you move forward. The final boss can have millions of HP, so make sure your team has enough damage.
Monster Clash Special Enemies
Monster Clash has some special enemies that you need to watch out for. Some monsters can use another spawn point and take a shorter path toward the middle. This means they can reach the crossing faster than normal enemies.
Jealousy is another special monster. It can copy the appearance of one of your units. You need to find it before it causes problems. There are also armored monsters and stronger merged enemies. These enemies have much more HP than normal monsters.
If one type of monster reaches the middle and the other side does not arrive soon, the monster can become enraged. This can stun your units for a short time. The easiest way to deal with these enemies is to keep your strongest units near the center.
How to Get the Monster Rift
Monster Clash also has a chance to open a Monster Rift. After you clear the stage, a helicopter may appear. The helicopter does not show up every time, so you will need some luck.
If the helicopter appears, wait for it to land. The host can then interact with it and take the team into the Rift. Defeating merged monsters can increase your chance of getting the Rift.
The game also does not automatically restart the stage when the helicopter appears. This is useful because you can wait for the helicopter without worrying about losing the opportunity.
Best Monster Clash Strategy
The easiest setup is to place your strongest units around the middle of the map. Putting your units too far to the side can make it harder to deal with enemies coming from the other path. Using two farming units is also helpful. More money means you can upgrade your damage units faster. A simple strategy is:
- Place your strongest units in the middle.
- Use two farms if you need more money.
- Upgrade your main damage dealers first.
- Watch both paths.
- Stop enemies before they reach the crossing.
- Be careful with Jealousy and other special monsters.
- Keep playing if you want another chance at the Rift.
How to Get Subject 8
Subject 8 is one of the main units added in Update 3.5. You need to play Monster Clash and collect the required event items. You also need to get access to the Monster Rift as part of the process.
After collecting the required items, you can get Subject 8. Subject 8 can later be evolved into Subject 8 Monster. The evolution gives him a new attack, a new passive, and more upgrades. He also has special equipment called Monster Claws.
Subject 8 Monster Abilities
Subject 8 Monster is a physical damage unit. He has both AoE and line attacks. His main mechanic is the Control Meter. The meter starts at zero and increases when he attacks or defeats enemies.
Different Control Meter levels give him extra effects. At 25 stacks, his attacks deal extra damage. At 50 stacks, his AoE becomes larger. He also becomes immune to some status effects.
At higher stacks, he gets more range and faster attacks. Reaching the required amount also unlocks his Unbound ability. Unbound gives Subject 8 a large temporary boost. His damage increases, his SPA goes down, and his AoE becomes bigger.
His Colossal Roar passive can also hit enemies around him with an AoE attack. It deals damage over several hits and can give nearby units extra physical damage. This makes Subject 8 a strong damage unit that can also help other units on the team.
Subject 8 Monster Claws
Monster Claws is the special equipment for Subject 8. The equipment makes his Unbound ability stronger. When his Control Meter reaches the required level, he can activate the effect. Monster Claws gives him:
- More damage.
- Lower SPA.
- Bigger AoE.
- Extra damage from Colossal Roar.
- A physical damage boost for nearby units.
If you plan to use Subject 8, getting his equipment is a good idea.
How to Get Alchemy Brothers Truth
The second major unit in Update 3.5 is Alchemy Brothers Truth. To get this unit, you first need Metallic Alchemist and Suited Alchemist. You can get the required units and materials through the event. You will also need to work on the Philosopher’s Stone.
The Philosopher’s Stone can be charged by clearing stages with different elemental units. Each element gives charge to its own part of the stone. Once you have all the required materials, you can evolve Metallic Alchemist and Suited Alchemist together. They will become Alchemy Brothers Truth.
Alchemy Brothers Truth Abilities
Alchemy Brothers Truth is mainly a support unit. His attacks use line AoE, and he can be placed multiple times. His main mechanic uses Alchemy Marks. His attacks apply these marks to enemies.
When an enemy reaches the maximum number of marks, Alchemy Brothers Truth can use stronger parts of his attack cycle. When a marked enemy is defeated, he can also apply extra marks to another enemy after a short cooldown. This makes him useful for teams that can take advantage of his Alchemy Mark system.
Alchemist Judgment
One of his most useful passives is Alchemist Judgment. If most of your team uses damaging DoT effects, Alchemy Brothers Truth allows those units to apply more DoT stacks to enemies.
If your team does not use many DoT units, he gets more space for Alchemy Marks instead. His other effects can also increase his magical damage buff or improve his slow. Because of this, he can work with different types of teams.
Alchemy Brothers Equipment
Alchemy Brothers Truth also has special equipment called Blade Arm. Blade Arm works with his Understand, Deconstruct, and Reconstruct attacks.
His attacks apply Alchemy Marks to enemies. Deconstruct can then give nearby units more magical damage based on the number of marks.
Reconstruct deals extra damage and slows enemies. This equipment makes his support abilities even better, so it is worth getting if you plan to use him.

Update 3.5 Quality-of-Life Changes
Update 3.5 also adds several smaller changes to make the game easier to use. Some of the changes include better shop sorting, improved stat collection, and better unit management. You can now drag units to equip or remove them from the hotbar. There are also skip buttons for cutscenes. Other improvements include:
- Better unit previews.
- Better inventory performance.
- Improved combat indicators.
- Better follower unit performance.
- Smoother loot box opening.
- Improved shop menus.
These changes are not as big as the new units, but they make the game more comfortable to play.
Is Anime Expeditions Update 3.5 Worth Playing?
Update 3.5 is not a huge update, but there are still good reasons to play it. Subject 8 Monster is a strong physical unit with large AoE attacks, extra effects from his Control Meter, and buffs for nearby units. Alchemy Brothers Truth is a useful support unit, especially if your team uses DoT damage.
His Alchemy Marks can also help him support other units. Monster Clash is also fairly easy to AFK once you have a strong team. Just place your important units around the middle and make sure you have enough farming income. If you want the two new units, their equipment, or the event rewards, it is worth farming Monster Clash while Update 3.5 is available.
